And Sinny departs for 90. Don't know if that'll be enough to convince the selectors to send him to England, on a belter of a Napier track and against (bar Southee) a pretty ordinary Northern bowling attack
Yeah I really doubt it.

What gets me though is the farcical way he got out. They went off for bad light, then came back on for just over one over - in which time Sinclair got out - and then went back off again.

There's a nation-wide conspiracy against him, IMO.

ND is suffering. But it is Napier. If Southee held his own on an unresponsive track, I'm satisfied. This is where PACE would have helped him, which he has none unfortunately at this stage of his career. Steyn can get wickets on wickets as flat as that in India, and that's even flatter than Napier.

Southee to be a better bowler needs more pace.

I'm a bit bemused Sinclair scores a 90 and the incumbents How and Taylor only got just got past 50.

Yeah, it's really bermusing, because Sinclair has always been rubbish at domestic level...

Rubbish his Test performances all you like, but he's the best batsman in the country at this level.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing

Sehwag has scored two triple centuries in tests while Kallis has scored no double centuries. Means **** all, really. Except, maybe, Sinclair isn't **** unlike you seem to believe.

Top 2 inches. That's all I have to respond. I never said he's a **** batsman. Although it would help the selectors and the Black Caps if he is.

Look, there is more to bowling than pace. Things like accuracy and use of swing/seam movement for instance are far more important.

Leslie bashing day today is it?

On unresponsive tracks, where you get no swing, you need pace.
If you continue to post rubbish then yes it is.

Funny, McGrath and Clark don't have any pace but on lovely flat tracks in Australia they succeed.

Zaheer Khan, Irfan Pathan are pace limited as well and they bowl in India and do well.

Tim Southee can already bowl in the 140s max, he's quick enough.

Ian Butler and (dare I say it) Heath Davis were very quick but they got smashed....

So you're saying Southee is McGrath now? 140 max? His top speed the whole 1 test he bowled in is 137 and that's the odd one off ball every spell. Where did you get 140+ from? His average speed in Malaysia is 125 btw, I followed him the whole tournament, he did awesomely well with that speed. :) The Kyle Mills speed.

He'll get more pace I have no doubt though, don't want to appear diagreeable for the sake of it. Sure he can go past 130 average which is his current speed average atm.

I'm not saying Southee is McGrath, I'm saying tearaway pace is not the only attribute of an excellent bowler.

Southee cracked 140 in all the 20/20s he's played.

Really? Wow. I didn't know that, I just know him from the U19s and the one test he's been in. 20 20... hm. Is the white ball faster? 8-)

No, but different speed radars use different technologies and thus produce different results. The ones at the U19WC were probably the same ones they used at the World Cup last year, that had Shaun Tait and Malinga struggling to get above 145 km/h.

In other news, glad to see Brent Arnel getting an extended run for ND and picking up a few wickets this season. Another player who's been handicapped by frequent injury, probably costing him a chance to go on and seek higher honours. Just as I write that he picks up his 6th wicket. Well bowled.

Man from 350 odd for 4 to get out under 400. Mini collapse?

Is Merchant eligible for New Zealand? He's looking really good (before he got out at 67 edit!) in the whole ND batting and CD batting lineup in this innings. I know he's Aussie NZC 'bought' over from Australian youths system, but he is batting really confidently compared to others. Might be a bolter.

EDIT: He's available now, as far as I'm aware, due to his New Zealand mother and never playing Oz FC cricket. But I doubt he'll be selected any time soon. He's only played three or four matches.

Lol. I posted him up in another forum and Darcy Waltergrave picked up on my comments and raised it in Radiosport today in the ND match.

"Word is he got 'bribed' over to New Zealand to play cricket for us, filling in the problematic number 3 batting spot position.
Anyone know his background? He is an Aussie youth cricketer, and his mom is a Kiwi.
Currently playing in the ND vs CD match and just scored a quickfire 67 off 71 deliveries.
Might be a bolter? "

That's what I said.
