So Ireland won their first game: Ireland 307/7 V Abu Dhabi 282/10.

Good show their by Abu Dhabi... Looks like UAE will be the top contender in 2009 Qualifiers, adding home advantage they will be the team to beat...

you have to remember though that our injury plighted bowlers were rested to allow for recovery.

AWTA. Things looking decent enough for most of the newer bowlers. Eaglestone sounded like he had a decent game, despite the indifferent start. Really hope Paul Stirling can begin to pick up form and get some decent scores in the book.

Bangladesh could'nt even make 200 in 3 odis against Saf, another poor performance by their batsmen? Is this good news for Ireland?...

Maybe but it could be an indication of good S. A are right now as much as how poor Bangladesh are.

That for me is the last straw regarding the Indian administrators. They deserve every bad thing that happens to them - I hope there are plenty.
Yup. They've devised possibly the most boring format in the history of mankind (Closely followed by the NHL), in addition to removing the associates. Utterly pathetic decision.

Oh, and a scoop today. The Norwegian squad for WCL Division Five has been announced.

Majid Zia Butt (cpt), Nation
Shahid Ahmed (vc), Nord
Abdul Hadi, Nation
Abdul Hameed Shaheen, Nation
Abdul Jabbar Ghani, Oslo
Adil Qazi, Star
Ehtesham-ul-Haq, City
Mubashar Ahmed Bhatti, Sinsen
Muhammad Shahbaz Butt, Sentrum
Muhammad Zeeshan Ali (wk if ruddy desperate), Sentrum
Nadeem Qureshi, Sinsen
Sameer Sachdev, Sentrum
Saqib Qayyum, Lions
Syed Munawar Ahmed (wk), Sinsen
Waseem Gill, Nation
Zaheer Ashiq, Sentrum
Zeeshan Siddiqui, Nation
Aameer Waheed, Oslo

Bit less ethnically spread than at the EC a year and a half ago, when a couple of Tamils got in. Norway have also secured the services of Ole "Stan" Mortensen as "reserve coach" (whatever that may mean - apparently not assistant, they're not supposed to have those!) to Ralph Dellor, Norway's v successful coach in the past few years.

Norway are likely to fight with USA for second spot in the group. The Nepalese quickies could have tricky to handle on Jersey pitches, I fear.

I was commenting on Norway's chance to reach the semis. Norway are not in a group with Afghanistan. If they get past the United States, every chance to get knocked out by the Afghanis.

No idea. Knowing the ICC, probably two days before the tournament.

Having said that, the groups are determined. Group A: Norway, Germany, Mozambique, Nepal, United States, Vanuatu; Group B: Afghanistan, Bahamas, Botswana, Japan, Singapore, Jersey.

How is it possible the USA is in with that rabble? :-O :)

It was barely a few years ago they were in the Champions Trophy and there is a hell of a lot of talent there. Especially compared to some of these teams.

Disqualified from WCL division three due to the internal struggles in the United States cricket establishment.

Bit like FIFA disqualifying Kenya a couple of years ago and Kenya getting a worse FIFA ranking and thus worse seedings as a result.

I don't think Kenya need FIFA or any one else to help us get a worse ranking. As much as soccer is a sport loved by the majority, we are C**P and always will be. One of the reasons, I would like to see the gvt push development of cricket, a sport Kenyans seem naturally to be good at.
