Cricketer Of The Year
Kind of weird-sounding stuff from Martin Crowe:

"It starts with the name: Royal Challengers. It's a very regal term and I am sure it was by design the kind of people we chose for the team."

"This is the Twenty20 royal team of the championship. We are going to behave like that, play like that and that describes the bunch we have."

From http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/ipl/content/story/342120.html

It kind-of says that it's a team in Dravid's image basically.

I can't wait for the team in Warney's image! :)

"You won't see us play wham-bam cricket, you will see an intelligent and well-organised kind of cricket."

Instant fail. Twenty20 cricket isn't about organisation and intelligence. That's Test cricket. Smack the ball over the rope.

There is always a place for intelligence and organisation. The Australians showed in the World Championship that aimless slogging only gets you humiliations by the likes of Zimbabwe.

AWTA. Most of the best innings so far in T20 have had intelligence to them, rather than simple slogs and heaves down the ground.

The best T20I innings has been by Chris Gayle and that was nothing but filthy slogging.

The appeal of the game is that not much intelligence is required. It's good for a few hours of entertainment. Nothing wrong with that of course, there's always time for that, but if intelligence and organisation is your #1 plan going in to a T20, you'll probably get owned.

As i wrote on some other thread, 20T compliments the other two formats .... Test cric will always be the ultimate test .... 20T is for those who prefer fireworks like in the powerplays and slog overs in ODIs .... ODIs is like a balance b/w tests and 20Ts

Imran Khan described the difference b/w the 3 formats by using the Ts of cricket

tests = technique + temperament + talent
ODIs = technique + talent
20T = talent

that^ says a lot :)

The Wheel is Forever
The IPL, through its own commercial acumen, also threatens the ICC's revenue streams. Last week Hero Honda, a consistent sponsor of ICC events including the World Cup, signed a $22.5m (£11.3m) deal with the IPL that must raise doubts about the prospect of it supporting future World Cups.

This is interesting to me. I wonder how much, if any, the rest of the cricketing boards and the ICC lose if sponsors pull out of ICC events.

My guess is that a large percentage of those are Indian though.
It is not as if there is only one indian company that offers to sponsor the world cup.
Why cannot hero honda sponsor both btw? And i think there are some international sponsors too.
This quote is almost like saying that since cable and wireless sponsored other cicket, they cannot sponsor the world cup.

And i am now sick and tired of such article specially from the english and australian press.It has almost become a ego problem that ,How can a third world country like india have any sort of authority?Specially since those countries have controlled cricket for so long and still do with other sports.

Itstl. All the more reason, I'd have thought, for the ICC to arrange a window for the IPL and be done with it.
