Nah, Noffke isn't in front of him as an all-rounder. There is no way they'd have confidence in Noffke to bat at 7, let alone any higher. Having Haddin at 6 on debut, and Noffke as an all-rounder after him is very light on with regards to batting.

Hopes will get the all rounder spot, if they decide to go that way. Considering they basically bowl Clarke as much as Symonds these days, they will just pick another batsmen.

Love seeing Hartley make runs, shame he didn't get three figures. Hopefully it gives him confidence for next season and beyond.

Good to see Watto back taking the field and contributing with both disciplines (and not getting injured).

S.A. are so dire it's not funny.

Surely Hopes won't get a run at test cricket. He can churn out a handy ten overs from time to time but his bowling certainly isn't test standard. Furthermore his batting isn't comparable to Katich or Hussey. I think Noffke has to get chosen as the replacement allrounder even if he isn't picked. 40 wickets and 700 runs can't be ignored but Jack is spot on with what he said.

No way. Hopes is an excellent One Day cricketer but hasn't proved anywhere near as much in the longer format.

If they went an all rounder they would go for Hopes. But IMO if Symonds was not going to Pakistan they would pick a specialist batsmen. Since Symonds improved his batting he hasn't bowled as much and is see pretty much as batsmen who can bowl 7-10 overs. On spinning tracks that role will just go to Clarke or even Hussey.

I'm not saying Hopes is some gun FC all rounder and deserves a Test call up. But if the selectors where completely in need of an all rounder, then they would choice Hopes. Your not going to pick Noffke to bat at 7 in Test Cricket. But IMO it not that big of a deal, or they wouldn't be giving Clarke so many overs. They would actually play Symonds as an all rounder.

I may be accused of being biased but i would've though Andrew Mac would be more suited to test cricket than Hopes.

:huh:

He's been bowling more than ever;

Watto needs more of what he's showed in the current match. Definitely shouldn't go to Pakistan, the Kat should be the back-up.

I don't understand why people think Noffke can't bat at number 7 in test cricket. He is the third highest run scorerer in the Pura cup this season. He is also the second highest wicket taker, I just don't get why he is soo underarted.

FC number 7 != Test number 7. Would need plenty of runs batting top 6 for QLD before being considered for a Test 7.

Were he 25, I've no doubt that with the numbers he's producing he'd be straight in the side.

He isn't underrated, it's just that this is his first season in the Pura Cup where he's put up the stats of a genuine allrounder. IIRC he's never averaged above 30 (with the bat) before in a full season of Domestic cricket in either England or Australia, so to suggest that he could be a genuined no.7 at test cricket based on 1 good season would be premature. Playing him at 7 would be even more of a risk with another test debutant in Haddin coming in at 6, who most certainly wouldn't make the team as a specialist batsmen, so it would leave Australias batting looking somewhat fragile.

They've got to go for Katich, surely. The man's a run machine, and they don't have a good enough all-rounder. Couple that with Haddin probably making his Test debut, and they'll need some more batting than usual IMO.

I have a sneaking suspicion Maher might have bowled Doran for so long in an attempt to give SA enough of a lead for him to have a crack at 10,000 runs for Queensland.
You'd need 3 Dorans for that to be the case, so far behind the 8-ball are SA right now....
