Series We'd Like to See

Not sure if that's a joke or not but it would be fascinating to know whether England could have beaten Australia without Bodyline, with such a strong side you'd think they would have been an excellent chance.
Indeed, it shows the fear factor Bradman held over them - man for man that England side was almost certainly stronger than Australia and would certainly have had a better than even chance of victory, and yet so intimidated were they by the fact that one man might score 900 runs against them again that they felt the need to resort to Bodyline to be sure.

And as Jardine himself might say "Well it worked, didn't it?"

I personally think that the bodyline series would of been won by Australia if bodyline had not been used because of the Bradman factor and because Australia had other world class players such as Ponsford, McCabe, Woodfull, Grimmett, O'Reilly and Oldfield.

Series I would like to see are:
England 32-33 vs West Indies early 80's
Australia 46-48 vs West Indies early 80's
Australia 46-48 vs Australia 1995-2007
Austalia 1995-2007 vs West Indies early 80's
Australia 1902 vs Australia 1921
Australia 1930-34 vs England 1952-58

Current Australian side v current Wenty Waratahs A Grade at our home ground with light poles on the field, an outfield like corrugated iron, a concrete dish drain running through the park to stop flooding and over lapping fields - with NSW v current Wenty Waratahs A Res on the other field at the same time.

Let's see how they go under those conditions

I would like to see the Invincibles Vs. the Ponting Ashes team of 06/07.
Yes. If only for the scene where Neil Harvey walks out and Ponting signals to Tait and Lee to warm up, pointing to his chin.

More seriously, England 2005 Ashes vs WI 80's would be an interesting series. KP going head-to-head with Holding would be something special. Simon Jones vs Viv would be just awesome to watch.

I'm sure Miller and Lindwall would be more than happy to return the favour :p
From what I've seen/read/heard, neither where anywhere near as quick so unless they wanted to get some themselves (as Lindwall batted top-8, he was probably immune from the fast-bowler's union), they might be a bit more judicious.

Another one; I'd be very interested in seeing the McGrath/Bradman battle. Bradman's big thing was mental strength and McGrath's his patience so the sheer test of will between those two would be amazing.

Hmm, when it comes to intimidatory bowling I don't think Lee and Tait would be in same league as Lindwall and Miller, from what I've heard. Obviously bouncer laws, more protection etc will mean we'll never know and the current pair are at a disadvatage in that regard. Happy to be corrected here though.

Lindwall was genuinely express in his earlier days, particularly in the years immediately after the Second World War, though as his career went on he modified himself into a masterful fast-medium bowler still capable of producing shock speed. Pace was never as important to his success, though, as to many others of his ilk due to his craft and intelligence. Len Hutton once said that Lindwall was the fastest bowler he ever faced, but that “he had the subtleties of a slow bowler’s mind.”

Miller would be a different proposition altogether due to his rampant unpredictability. His regular deliveries weren’t quite as quick as Lindwall’s by all accounts, but he had the ability when the mood took him to send the occasional one down that was faster than anything Lindwall ever produced. To quote Hutton again “Miller was my secret dread.”

And, of course, Lindwall and Miller would be far better equipped with the bat to handle Lee and Tait than the other way around. ;)

Has oft frustrated me that one of the strongest sides England have ever put out resorted to illicit tactics and will hence be remembered better for that than their brilliance.

If I had two England sides face-off, I'd have had 1932\33 vs 1902. Very probably the best two England teams to set foot on a field.

Australia of 1934 vs Australia of 1948 would be fascinating too.

So would West Indies of some point in the 1950s or 1960s (be it the three-Ws\R&V vintage or the Sobers-Hunte-Kanhai-Butcher-H&G-Gibbs lot) vs West Indies of 1982-1983.

India's team of 1972\73 vs their lot of some point in the last 5 or 6 years would be deeply fascinating.
