Who is this Daniel Flynn lad? He looked to have some ability today. Didn't he score a hundred a couple of weeks ago? More importantly, how good is he?

Was impressed with Ewen Thompson, he's been quite good for a while now IIRC, though I'm not entirely sure how good. I've been rather slack on keeping up with domestic cricket lately.

Haven't seen him live for a couple of years, but when I last saw him (2 years ago I think) he looked a decent prospect. Looked very good today, mind.

Thompson is great, he got 8 for 25 in club cricket last saturday. Should have bowled that last over.
Hopefully CD can still get through to the finals, got 2 games left against Otago and Auckland. How should have learnt a lot last night and hopefully he won't make those bad decisions.

AWTA.

Must say I really enjoyed the banter in the commentary box.

Simon Doull (Ex ND player): "A few big runs at the top and they've got this in the bag"

Martin Crowe (Played for CD for a few seasons): "You're dreaming"

Later....

Martin Crowe: "OH AND THE NORTHERN KNIGHTS ARE IN THE GAME!!!!"

Mark Richardson: "You're dreaming"

Found the banter quite enjoyable. Liked the bit where Doull was planning what he would bowl and Crowe was planning how he would go about batting. Rigor got the piss taken out of him as per usual.

Impressive innings from Peter McGlashan, as much as I dislike the guy. Better than Hopkins as a potential #6 in the ODI side though.

That innings by Taylor yesterday was the most disgusting hundred I've ever seen. Tried to smash absolutely everything to cow corner. Awful stuff.

Great wins for ND, though I'd much rather they were winning the four dayers rather than 20/20s.

He has been rather prone to the slog lately, hence keep him away from tests.

I've said it a hundred times but he needs County Cricket.

Why precisely? The coaching in county cricket isn't that much better than anywhere else. And the standard in some county matches is so low, that he'd easily be able to score cartloads of runs playing that exact style, so there'd be little incentive for him to change.

They play alot of games, there's the pressure to win the game for the county being the pro player, I'd back their FC comp to be better than ours as well (though I think ours has gained ground).

Watched Otago play CD at Pukekura Park today. WE WON!!! On the subject of Taylor his 47 was disappointing, almost all the boundaries were his slog sweep and he heavily favoured the onside, can he please learn to use other areas of the ground? Oram got out in an embarrasing way again, charged down the pitch, inside edge onto the stumps. Sinclair made a nice fifty and Robbie Schaw, bar three deliveries which were all hit for six, did reasonably. The bowlers on both sides had a few disputes with the umpires but I wasn't in a good position to make judgement on wides, LBWs etc (When the bowler was coming in from the city end to a right hand batsman I was sitting at midwicket, in the path of Taylors slog sweep, forgive me if I've got the fielding position wrong)

Otago struggled with their bowling though Bradley Scott looked very good early on. Strangely Aaron Redmond didn't bat at all despite being a number three, even when the tail was exposed so he must have some sort of injury issue. Apart from Brendan McCullums fifty the Otago top order came and went cheaply and it took Greg Todd (batting at 6 or 7 IIRC) and Bradley Scott to get them to 172 off 20 overs. CD took roughly 14 to 18 overs to complete the chase for the loss of four wickets. (I can't recall what over they wrapped it up)

Good to hear of a win to CD. It seems like Oram is just going out to blast it, rather than take his time and work it around. It sounds like Diamanti was impressive today, though would love to know what Oram was thinking in his last over - his bowling definitely doesn't seem to be as efefctive in Twenty20 as it is in the other forms.

Surprised by Otago. At the Uni Oval I would have expected Mason, Thompson, Sherlock and even Diamanti to have a field day with the ball.

So what are the teams? I presume they are:

Morgan
Cumming
Redmond
Todd
Broom
Gidman
De Boorder
N.McCullum
Scott
McSkimming
Turner

and..

Ingram
Barnett
Sinclair
Hay
Weston
Griggs
Diamanti
Thompson
Mason
Schaw
Sherlock

Both pretty good bowling sides, would have picked the bowlers to dominate.

No matter, Hay and Sinclair to dominate the List A journeymen bowlers.

About ****ing time Gidman did something. That's what happens when you sign a player who averages almost 40 in FC cricket and 20 something in List A stuff, then make him play limited overs cricket.

Awesome batting by Otago. I've never had much faith in Redmond's List A ability, but he's in good form this season. Broom is 36* from 14 as I type, very good batsmen. Rate him.

I suppose it won't be long before the public are talking about Daniel Flynn as another possible ODI option. Him and BJ Watling have been excellent for Northern Districts this season. Our batting depth isn't that bad, but we need the selectors to pick this young guys for higher representative games, that way we'll get a better indication of their quality. There is a strong nucleus of young players averaging between 30 and 35 that could be potential ODI batsmen, we just need to give them more experience.

Then of course there is Michael Papps, who averages over 40 for Canterbury. Disgraceful he doesn't get more recognition.
