Australia keep going to unreached heights, and SL worsened their record in Aus, causing a big drop (they previously had drawn one). Everyone else just went through a rating adjustment after this series.

Outside of their record against India, the Australians have won every single Test match they've played at home against every country, with the exception of one draw against South Africa. This is a completely ridiculous record. Discounting India, they are: 5-0, 3-0, 3-0, 3-0, 2-0, 2-0, 3-0.

Maybe, but NZ has done better in Test cricket than SL, and the rankings are a reflection of that. NZ drew a series in Sri Lanka, and at home beat the crap out of India, drew a series with RSA and SL and England.

Aussies have a huge influence on the rankings, as even drawing a match against Australia can catapult your ranking. Aussies are an outlier compared to everyone else (along with Bangladesh). So, I figured what it would look like if Aussies and Bangladesh were removed from the picture. Here is what the rankings would look like:

These might actually be the 'real' rankings (except Aussies at the top) because there are some teams that are artificially higher or lower only because of their record against Australia. For example, India's 1-1 performance vs. Australia in Australia is so completely out of the ordinary compared to everyone else, that it gives them a huge boost in normal rating. With that said, Australia and Bangladesh do exist, so performances against them must be counted, but this is just an interesting exercise.

As you can see, except England remaining tops, everything else switches up.

England's lead is diminishing after the India/Pakistan series:

A good showing (even if they lose) in SL will solidify their lead, but a whitewash by the Sri Lankans will see them drop. A 2/3 win from Sri Lanka will keep the rankings the same. Of course, India have a juggernaut next, so these rankings will surely change, one way or another, after that series.

Yup, but England are quite bad away these days. And England do defend their home turf quite well (except the recent series).

Haha, yeah. Pakistan's home series read:
(Australia - lost 0-3) this was in UAE
Bangladesh - won 3-0
England - won 2-0
India - won 1-0
New Zealand - null-and-void? Won a single Test with the Second abandoned
South Africa - lost 0-1 (was won 1-0 until recently)
Sri Lanka - drew 1-1
West Indies - won 2-0
(Zimbabwe - surely null-and-void given the last series was nearly a decade ago?)

Well, the rest of the countries have a better home record more than Pakistan having a bad one. But I will double check their rating after I go back to work.
