I don't have as much against Amla as I once did. As I said earlier in this thread, he's improved his technique remarkably in recent times. It's still not great or anything, but it's better than a few others going around. He's still a bit wristy and loose outside off at times but he's improved his trigger movements, backlift, backward defense and off-stump judgement to a degree where he's passable to me.Must be so bittersweet for Prince EWS, this. Martin bowling well, as predicted. Before this test, he had 42 wickets @ 23 vs South Africa, which is very good and very suprising.

Granted I'm fairly ignorant on SA cricket, and I know AB de Villers would and has opened, but who else is there, Boeta Dippenaar?

Yeah. He sucks against Chris Martin and always has but he had a decent enough tour of Pakistan IIRC and still averages over 46 with the bat at test level. Granted he hasn't been at the top of his game in the last year or two but he's in safer waters, even on batting alone, than Gibbs, as he's still a better opener than Dippenaar.

He had a really poor 2006 but hasn't been too bad this year, averaging almost 40. Not enough to drop a batsman, IMO
