*Official* South Africa in Pakistan

Why is Pakistan's not going for the runs more disgraceful than South Africa not going for the wickets.
Because they've already won the series and no matter if they take wickets or not, they will still have won the series. The only negative outcome for them is if they allow runs. Other than that, they're fine with it.

Pakistan on the other hand, have lost the series and the only way top stop from losing the series is to go for it. The draw didn't change the outcome for either side, and since the outcome was positive for South Africa, obviously they were ecstatic that it happened. But Pakistan did nothing to avert it.

The onus was on Pakistan to win the game as a draw gave the series win to SA.

If you are ahead on points going into the 12th round of a fight, you dance and keep away rather than going for the knockout and getting knocked out yourself.

Sensible cricket. Also Im sure SA were trying to bowl them out just were not overly aggressive with their fields.

Presumably because they were at certain points in the second innings looking to win (hence Pakistan‘s flattering start)… .Also if anyone watched this game it wasn’t the easiest wicket to get people out on come the end (or conversely score quick runs on), unless you do an Inzy.

Anyhow top win by the South Africans, dominated all but one of the days in this test series and fully deserved the victory. Still a few problems with their batting but the bowlers were very good, Harris was exceptional, fantastic control and unlike so many of South Africa’s former spin bowlers his a match winner.

Pakistan's ODI side has been announced for the first three games...

Shoaib Malik (captain), Mohammad Yousuf, Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi, Salman Butt, Mohammad Hafeez, Imran Nazir, Kamran Akmal, Misbah-ul-Haq, Mohammad Asif, Rao Iftikhar, Umar Gul, Yasir Hameed, Abdul Rehman, Sohail Tanvir.

Surprised to see Asif included considering he is apparently really struggling and Gul also went down at the end of this test with a slight knock.

The players in bolds are not good enough to play international Cricket.

well i was just talking with perm about this.. hafeez has a good technic for test matches.. and same with yasir hameed...espacially yasir hameed.. he has been very unfortunate to miss alot of matches.. and butt is the future star of pakistan..so i don't agree with these names to be exculded from test side.. and since when rao iftekhar anjum is test level bowler?

Mildly pleased that we were able to secure the draw. Wasn't particularly sure that Younis and Yousuf were capable of knocks like this under great pressure, not least of all from their own fans. And sad to see Inzi get out as he did, but I'm not particularly bothered.

Pakistan have a lot of preparation to do before the Test series against India, to say the least.

And up in that gilded rankings table high in the sky...

Pakistan fell any way, to unprecedented depths.
So this valiant heroic (not!!) attempt to save the second test was in vain.
We would have fallen even more if we had not managed to save the Test. Going for the glorious win would not have been the right decision in this particular instance, and this was confirmed by the end of the first session by the condition of the pitch and the effectiveness that Paul Harris was having in keeping them down whenever they tryed to break free of the shackles.

Interesting to note that you did not bold Rao Iftikhar Anjum, who is a terrible bowler. Also, Salman Butt is a very good limited overs batsman, the best opener in Pakistan by quite a distance.

Amazing series for Kallis, three centuries and a fifty. Averaged over 200. Nice to see Smith notching up a century, his first in a while. Amla was terrible, and Gibbs wasn't much better. Get them out of the Test side, Neil McKenzie deserves another shot. Not too mention guys like JP Duminy, Zander de Bruyn and Martin van Jaarsveld, all classy batsman. Unfortunately Gibbs has carried on too long, he's been quite bad for the last couple of years now.

Pakistan has at least 3 better opening batsmen than Salman Butt which are

Khalid Latif
Taufeeq Umar
Khurram Manzoor

Yes, instead of falling to next to last place - they would have fallen to next to last place. They are now below every country except west indies, and there was no chance to fall below them anyway.

Congratulations.

Pakistan wanted to spin South Africa out in this series and that was one decision that really backfired on them, in both the test they lost the toss and South Africa were able to set good 1st inning scores on both occasions and on the other hand Pakistan's batting crumbled in reply.
Kallis was out there in this series with a point to prove and he did just that in great style and he has well supported by other batsmen and bowlers too stuck to their tasks and did the basics right.

.
They forgot that unlike India the pitches in Pak aren't exactly ideal for spin. They also forgot that they themselves didn't have a world class spinner.Kaneria is a good bowler, but not someone who is capable of winning a series for his team. He's probably the most over-rated bowler in Pak team
