The Battle of the Commentators

McGilvray's pencil on desk action is stuff of legend.

But still, never heard of him, and I don't mind Cozier. So Cozier it is.
 If it's the stuff of legend, how have you never heard of him?

Or should that just say "never heard him"?

Final Scores

Cozier: +10 -2 = +8
McGilvray +8

So, all tied up at +8 a piece.

That gives me the casting vote, and as such - even though I like the sound of what McGilvray accomplished, the fact I've not heard any of his commentary and quite like Cozier's, I'm going to put Tony Cozier through to round Two.
You cretin!

Grossly unfair :@

What are you going to do if there is a tie between Inzy and Bradman for greatest batsman and you have the casting vote?

Hypothetically speaking :)

That's completely different. There are ways to tell if a batsman is good or not, there is no way to gauge how good someone is at talking into a microphone. That's all down to taste.

For: Johnners

He was under the eccentricity, brilliantly professional, never missed a ball in favour of chatting about cakes. Unlike another public schoolboy, who has followed him, who you feel would much rather be talking about buses then the actual cricket.

Jeez. Copping a bit of flack here. Makes me glad I picked the one I did. If you guys who voted for McGilvray had 'sold' him a bit more when you voted, maybe someone else would have put in the casting vote, eh? I like Cozier's commentary, so I have no qualms in voting for him.
Maybe because it is such an early round, we could have let both go through?

Battle Five
David Lloyd vs Mark Nicholas

A battle where those negative votes could come into our play as both contenders are those commentators that some people adore and other loathe.

David Lloyd

Playing Career: A stalwart for Lancashire CCC, he played a handful of tests and ODIs for England before later becoming coach
Commentating Pedigree: Famous for his cutting one-liners; particularly for an unkind comparison between the various bowling merits for Nathan Astle and Graham Thorpe, he has been in the commentary box since reliquishing his coaching and umpiring careers.
Other:* Commentates the annual Mascot Derby in English County Cricket

Mark Nicholas

Playing Career: No international appearances, but a regular player and captain for Hampshire CCC, primarily as a batting all-rounder
Commentating Pedigree: Anchorman for Channel 4 between 1999-2005, also making the transition to international commentary when he took to doing the honours for Channel 9 in Australia in the Northern Hemisphere winter.
Other:* Sports presenter of the year 2001
* Presented UK Survivor
