Lawro thinks Joe Cole has been England's best player in this match.

Someone order him a straight jacket. Complete lunatic.

Some trivia for you...

Liverpool's 'Kop' is derived from the word 'Koppie' which is Afrikaans for Hill.. The hill in question is near here, and was commemorated after the Boer War in the form of the Kop at Liverpool football club..

Quite well known, I'd say. Named after the Spion Kop IIRC.

what does Joe Cole have to do to play 90 minutes for club or country, ha it really is funny.

Some really weird subs in the second half so far from McLaren, firstly ok Rio is injured you bring on Wes Brown of all people, put Richards in the centre & take away the attacking threat he was having on the flank. Surely Steve Taylor would have been a better option in the centre.

Taking of Owen also crazy, its not like he has played much this season, but then again i'm going to give McClaren a break with his subs subs given the amount of injuries in the land ATM.

Why does Dyer keep being played up front when his finishing and brain is so useless?

Shorey's cross at the end wasn't very good but Dyer should have been coming across the near post.

Shorey, Richards and Lampard were good for England and Wright-Phillips for the time he was on. Some were average. Some were Dyer, Robinson, James, Beckham, Owen, Alan Smith - obviously injury can partially excuse two of those where as the rest aren't good enough.

Won't cry over this result. Both sides were missing key players, England played ok and shouldn't have lost but Robbo's blunder cost us.

Hopefully the injuries around the land ease very soon & England have a close to full-strenght squad for Euro qualifiers so that garbage players like Dyer, Smith, Brown, Neville don't have to picked for England.

Paucity of other options is my guess. Only legitimate strikers we had on the bench were Crouch (who came on with him) & Defoe, who's about 12th choice down the Spuds nowadays.

Theo Walcott would have been better. At least he could have a future.

Dyer has over 30 caps for England and hasn't scored yet. His goalscoring record is fairly unimpressive for club sides too. Just pick anyone else basically, likewise with Alan Smith.

Why is Gerrard allowed to play for Liverpool but isn,t for the German game? If it were me I would of told Liverpool that if he is fit to play for Chelsea then is fit to play for England so he should be released, and if they didn't I would give them a big fine. Shouldn't be a problem for the amount of money they splash out for players and for primma donnas inthe past like Cisse and Bellamy.

It should be added I'd probably run it like a dictatorship...

Compared to what's gone before I would run it like a dictatorship.

Regarding a friendly like that that's just over a couple of weeks away from the Israel game it's simple. You either show up for the friendly or you've no hope of starting against Israel and very little chance of starting against Russia. Players would actually know if they play well they'll stay in the side and if they don't they're out, Shorey, Micah Richards and Lampard should start against Israel regardless. Wright-Phillips should move up the pecking order above Beckham. Gerrard can get as much hype as he likes from the BBC fanboys he'd still be on the bench.

TBH I thought it was interesting that Michael Owen would play despite just coming from his major injury woes. Mind you at the rate the English strikers are going down, they will need to bring back Emile Heskey or Francis Jeffers (what club does he play for now? )...

Heskey had a very good game for Wigan the other day actually, for me the only reason he has never lived up to expectations at international or perhaps club level...is a mental issue.

He's at Sheff Wed.

May as well bring Robbie Fowler, Dion Dublin, Darren Huckerby and Julian Joachim.

What Owen needs is minutes on the pitch, so it was only right & proper he played. He got into some decent positions, but his lack of match fitness/sharpness was betrayed by his finishing, which was the crap side of ordinary.

Anyway, to wash the taste of defeat from our mouths here's our last win over Jerry on home soil thanks to YouTube. Had a Newcastle striker up front that day too, but Malcolm MacDonald cut from altogether superior cloth than Alan "Disgrace to a fine footballing name" Smith.

Biggest difference appears to the the short accurate passing. Nowadays England are just punting it forward and hoping half the time. Also the amount of times i was expecting a long range shot only for it not to happen was huge, clearly showing that nowadays people are willing to let fly and hope.
