Not denying that Rooney hasn't scored very many goals for England at all, however I feel he brings far more to the England side besides goals than Crouch does.
I don't know how you figure out that Crouch is as big a threat to Brazil as he is to Exeter. I wonder what Crouch's goals/minutes ratio is against decent sides, then? If England were a top class international side, in reality Crouch wouldn't be in the squad.
Over the past 3 years Rooney has done bugger all, not scored, barely sets anyone up. Crouch's mere presence as a lanky git in the box creates more space and opportunities for other players etc. than what Rooney has done for England in the past 3 years.
As for the second bit did you actually bother to read what you quoted? No team can truly cope with high 6 footers, height almost transcends quality of defenses, as does to a lesser extent pace. Better teams stop the source, which is easy when it's England because we're too busy fitting pet players in to have a balanced side. But if you hit good crosses into a 6' 7" player he's going to head it, you can't stop it once the ball is in the air (cheating defenders excepted). Obviously if you're facing a one-dimensional side you can defender deeper or further up the pitch, England don't seem to be able to provide pace getting in behind defenses and height at the same time for whatever reason.
Your dislike of Crouch just because he's ungainly is irrational. Seriously this country of muppets would sooner have a load of non-performing players like Joe Cole and Rooney looking good while they do nothing, having an unbalanced side that creates nothing and goes nowhere.
One of the rare occasions England had a manager with guts and a strong personal opinion, will etc. we actually won something.
While the media and the idiot fans who're a slave to the media picks the side we're doomed, because we'll never produce an 11 that's consistently brilliant and picks itself.
