U19 Vice-Captain
PUP PUP AND AWAY - But No Burnt Bridges M for Shaun

An emotional near-capacity crowd turned out at Cymru Gurgitaters CG today to wish farewell to one of their genuine heroes. In fact, such was the out-poring of feeling, that the match itself, and the fact that this was also to be Prof/Resp Bat Sarwar Qureshi's last game for the club, almost went unnoticed. In his three and a half season's at The Gurs, Sup/Prof LHS Shaun Bridges M has laid claim to both the club record for the best career average, 13.7, as well as that for the best career economy rate, 3.54.

At the stroke of 10:30 the Two departing players led out The Gurs side-by-side, to a standing ovation from all corners of the stadium - which didn't subside until Rem/Sup LM Bewers cleaned up Qual Wrong'uns' opener, Howard, for just 11. Sup/Resp RM Wilde nipped in for another cheap wicket in his most impressive opening spell to-date, (7/2/23/1, but then it was time for Bridges M's Swan song. The stands shook when he trapped Prof Bodfish in front with a flipper for 2 in his first spell, but that was nothing compared to the seismic eruption which greeted his looped leg-break which fooled Prof Leonard for 36, to break a fifth wicket stand of 125. However, despite recapturing the guile which had deserted him for much of the season, there was to be no avalanche of wickets, as he finished his spell and his Gurs' career with figures of 10/1/36/2. Bewers however did register his fourth fivefer of the campaign, annihilating the tail to notch up 9/2/22/5.

The pursuit of Wrong'uns' modest total of 198 was a mere formality in the grander scheme of things. Qureshi was granted his personal moment with the crowd, promoted up the order to open with Greening. But, as has been the case throughout his one and a half seasons with the club, he was unable to convert a positive start into a meaningful score, nonsensically running himself out for 16, departing the stage still without a half century to his name. But even as Wond/Strong Greening's unflustered 86* (116) guided his side home with a steady hand, Bridges M in the dressingroom was far from unflustered, still unsure of where he'd be heading at stumps. Derbyshire Div V outfit Pup and Pakistan's Div III 'Damn Right I'm Pakistani' were locked in a fierce eleventh hour bidding war, which saw his eventual transfer price rise to £2.79M, almost exactly four times the previous highest Gurs' sale. Much to Bridges M's relief, the enigmatic manager Rodgie won through, so after a well-earned farewell party, he'll make the comparatively short trip up the M5 in the morning.

Vayro insists he's in no hurry to unleash his war chest, which is now believed to be in excess of £4M, but with the fans eager to kick on after three seasons of Div IV stability, and a league decider against Who's Your Daddy coming up next Friday, just how long will Vayro be able to sit on his chequebook?

Easy win in the end, 122 runs. Now two tricky ones that'll decide the eventual order of the top three.

In other news, I just refreshed my league and got a surprise - they're handing out div V sides to new teams in England again, after seemingly only giving them div VI sides for the last couple of seasons. Both the bots at the bottom of my league have shiny new owners as of this evening; combined with our promotee from VI we've now got no bots at all, which is nice after two seasons of there really only being 4 particularly active teams.

The Heath CC: 266/9 (50) Bartlett 52 (53)
montypanesarswonderteam: 184/10 (43.3) Talbot 3/28 (6.3), Woods 2/31 (7)

A fairly unspectacular win, but a win nonetheless giving me 7 out of 7 in the league. The batting was disappointing in that all of the top order got starts but no one went on to make a big score in a disappointing total of 266 on a flat wicket. montypanesarswonderteam are only a few weeks old, but they got a decent starting side with a bowler who has now taken 15 wickets in 4 games, including 6/50 today.

266 looked like it might be a few runs short, especially when montypanesarswonderteam reached 115/1 having lost an early wicket to the bowling of Woods. However, my bowlers pulled it back for me, with each of the 5 taking at least one wicket. Talbot was the pick of the bowlers with 3/28, which made up for his second-ball duck. Meanwhile, Nolan took a couple of wickets on his debut, Woods continued to impress and Marrison made a great recovery after bowling 3 wicketless overs for 19 to finish with respectable figures of 10-1-34-1

Elsewhere in my league, my nearest challengers Camberwell Carrots skittle their opponent for 30, with one of their bowlers taking 9/14. The two of us are now opening up a sizeable gap at the top of the table.

And that's the end of the match. Guttedball won by 229 runs.
Guttedball 370-3
Parlatuvier CC 141-10

Another dominating win for us, biggest total we've scored since I took over. Openers Gillespie and Jan both scored centuries at over a run a ball, young Hislop with another 70-odd and then my spinner had his first real big game with 6-17 from his 7 overs.

Mauled my opposition in my first game with my WK hitting a century.
Without even making any real orders:p

Quick glance at the league table and fixture list sees me up against the current league leaders next with a victory putting me top of the table due to about 15+ NRR difference. Looking forward to the challenge.

Also noticed that in the 5 games he's played my young Aussie bat has scored 330 runs including two fifties and a century and hasn't got out yet, which I'm pretty chuffed with. Been wondering why he hasn't been showing up on the average table.

Good win yesterday, beating the other previously unbeaten side in my league to go 7 for 7. Might actually get out of this damn league this season.

Rolled them for 92, Norris took 3-28 and Sainsbury 2-15. Then fell to 3-15 myself but went on to win by 7 wickets.

Spin Bowling: proficient useless

Fairly happy with those ratings, though spin could be better. Annoyed that I PANed that match, this team can get decent ratings, but it looks like they played for the loss. Could have done with a better RR though, I need all I can get to finish top four.

BTW Perm, I just noticed that you have Ricky Heard playing for you. He was in my starting team, and was my best bowler, notable feats including bowling five maidens in a row. Seems to be getting on now though.
HT Holdens, the former home of Anchormen starlet Frank Ralph. Ahh, £6.97m

One of the more pleasing performances of the season thus far considering we TIE'd. Made 301-5 (Ashton 126, Watkins 99*) and bowled them out for 153 with Whitehorne not taking a wicket (Harewood 5-46, Downer 2-24). Harewood's first five-wicket haul incidentally. Batting lineup is looking fairly solid now.

Got a nightmare schedule over the next 7/8 days: Borderliners (away), NorCricket (home), Borderliners (away), and if I win the first Borderliners match I'll most likely have a cup final against NorCricket two days after playing NorCricket. Still, pretty well prepared for it with team fitness sublime and morale over the moon, only obvious weakness is the fifth bowler issue.
