Battle of the Rugby World Cup players

Horan was key to two World Cup victories and the player of the tournament in 1999. One of the great all-time performances in a World Cup against SA in the semis, despite suffering from severe food poisoning the night before the match.
Stransky kicked South Africa to a World Cup victory in 1995. If you were asking who was a better player overall then I think most people would vote for Horan, but as it is then I think the result will be different.

If you say so, but is one World Cup winning drop goal > being one of the greatest players in World Cup history and a two-time champion?

He kicked all 15 points in that game you know? Horan being one of the greatest is purely your opinion, and there have been plenty of average players to win World Cups over the years, in all sports.

One game regardless of whether it was final doesn't equal a quality career at World Cups, Zac.
I realised that Tharmi, but I thought the comment "Anyone who votes for Stransky is out of their mind" was totally uncalled for and definately not true.

Ohtani's jacket, I think you're trying to wind us Saffies up. You had silly things to say about Pienaar, too. Needless to say, we are mature, adult people and don't get wound up so easily. We just keep on voting for our guys!:)
For the record, I'm not out of my mind.

I agree, and like joti said, he had words to the negative effect of picking Pienaar as well.

Bit of debate is always healthy for mine. I'll maintain my neutral stance here in case a casting vote is required, but I'd certainly have gone for nice Michael over Pienaar. Lynagh was a magnificent player & a great leader; Pienaar was only the latter.

Tim Horan advances at the expense of Joel & Michael Jones emerges on top in the all All-Black clash.

Next up, the final two match-ups for Round 1:

Battle 15

Serge Blanco (France)

vs

George Gregan (Australia)

Battle 16

Philippe Sella (France)

vs

John Eales (Australia)

Two Franco-Australian clashes for you to decide. An imperious Gallic full-back who inspired the French to the first final takes on the combative Zambian-born scrum-half who just keeps on going & the jinking centre with 111 caps goes up against the man they called "Nobody" (as in nobody's perfect) who lifted the trophy in 99 & may just be the most complete union player ever.

Blanco and Eales.

I like the Boks, I just think the wrong players were nominated. Pienaar was the agent who signed away all the South African players, no? How is that silly?

It has to be Lynagh for the '91 World Cup semi-final against Ireland when he took the captain's armband and orchestrated the last gasp try. One of the great rugby World Cup moments. Francois Pienaar is famous for shaking hands with Mandela. OK, he was a good captain, but James Small's crazy defence won that Cup. Plus Pienaar almost ruined the damn game by signing contracts with Murdoch or Packer or whoever it was.

Oh, and Martin Johnson.
Except Australia played new zealand in the semi. That game your thinking of ws the quater final.
