Monty reaches number 6 in the ICC Bowling Rankings level with Hoggard. :) Has an England spinner been so high before?

Heard on the radio this morning that Chanderpaul has now top-scored in 6 successive test match innings. Apparently a record he shares only with George Headley.

It's an indictment on his team mates as much as it's a tribute to his skill and guts. Kudos to Bravo as well, but the rest........

Laker fine. Not sure about Underwood though - when at his peak (around 1977), he was competing with Lillee, Thomson, Roberts, Holding, Willis, Imran, Bedi, Chandra & others. I suppose maybe at the end of 1969, when he cleaned up against very weak NZ & WI sides after winning the Oval test the previous summer.

Is there actually a record of these anywhere?

Anyone care to take a punt on England's oneday squad that's due to be announced later this week? The top 3 really do seem to be anyone's guess, as do the quicks, given injuries & lack of form.

Underwood had a highest ranking of number 1 and a highest rating of 907 (which is very, very high)

I'm genuinely astonished about Underwood being number 1 at any stage of his career, but there you go. Was I right about it being at the end of 1969? I suppose that wasn't exactly a golden age bowlers, although, of course, we could say the same about Panesar & Hoggard finding themselves at number 6 now.

Monty is a nickname that has been given to him by teammates and the press. Most cricket fans know his name is Mudshaden Singh Panesar. He doesn't have control what other people call him, it's not like he has refused to wear his Turban or renounced Sikhism.

I read in a newspaper interview that it's a name his family has used since he was a boy.

I hear that Donald is now fining our bowlers for bowling no balls. I wonder how much? Ray Jennings used to make the South African bowlers run around the ground 5 times for a no ball and 3 times for a wide.

Flintoff is the biggest culprit with 316 in 67 Tests.:blink:
Harmison only 115 no balls in 54 Tests
