*Official* English Football Season 2006-07

Yea, that explains why he has 12 goals in 20 games for England doesn't it? That's not to mention the fact that he's always a threat and creates plenty of goals with his presence. I don't really care who the goals come against, given what he is he'll create plenty of trouble against Exeter City or Brazil if used properly. Owen can't match that rate of scoring and he contributes zilch when he's not getting goals - yet people wouldn't dream of not playing him.

Unfortunately not many of us actually look at the reality of the situation and get clouded by style and aesthetics. That's why people like Owen so much more even tho he's the other end of the spectrum from Crouch. There's no way Crouch should not be a first choice the way England play, given who our other potential forwards are and how most teams play against us.
Record against half-decent sides?

Yea i know, won't comment on Lampard too much 60 plus goals for chelsea over the past 3 seasons, making him arguably the best attacking mid-fielder in Europe but seems to have lost that egde for England since the WC.
His goals tend to mask ordinary performances IMO.

Funny how Scaly bemoans when Monty's record is inflated with cheap West Indian wickets but Crouch scoring hat-tricks against Jamaica implies something far different.
Monty has a below average record that is inflated by playing rubbish sides and playing on turning pitches and contributes little else than bowling. Crouch is scoring at 0.6 goals a game which is good by anyone's standards, contributes a bit more than simply just goals. Even if his record is inflated by opposition (which it isn't hugely so, given England's inability to put garbage teams anyway). As I've already said Crouch's style is effective against any quality of team when used properly. It's not like he's had particularly brilliant service so far either given England have generally been devoid of width in recent times.

In European transfer news, one of France's stars of last years World Cup, Franck Ribery has joined Bayern Munich in a £17.6m transfer plus an extra £2.7m if Bayern make the European Cup.

Yikes. Bayern got really angry at losing the CL spot.

(OK, I know Hargreaves pays for Ribery, and since Hargreaves hasn't played much recently it's probably a good deal)

Yeah and Toni makes up for the loss of Pizarro, although you can argue if they let Pizarro go then he mustn't be much of a loss.

Pizarro was on a free and rejected a contract extension at Bayern because they failed to qualify for the Champions League and meet his wage demands.

Karl Heinz Rummenigge on Pizzaro's wage demands - "Anyone wishing to earn as much as Shevchenko had better start playing like Shevchenko".

But they have been very busy in the transfer market for aside from Toni and Ribery they have also secured the signings of Jose Sosa, Hamit Altintop, Germany internationals Marcell Jansen, Jan Schlaudraff, a returning Ze Roberto in principle and Miroslav Klose either for next season or the 2008/9 season.

I see David Bentley has pulled out of the Euro Under 21 Championship due to ‘fatigue’. Bentley was fit enough to train with England seniors for two weeks but not to travel to Holland…

Not surprisingly Stuart Pearce is not a happy bunny but it’s a real poor move from Bentley for the tournament should have been the biggest thing of his career thus far and great experience for himself but instead his looked upon the tournament and playing for his country as utterly inconsequential.

Fellas, really who follows La Liga here?. Can't believe nobdoy has mentioned one of the most dramatic days in football in a while. I was in the ardale almost all day with my girl and i made sure i was up to date with the scores.

Messi's hand of god is pretty much an dead ringer of Maradona's goal againts England & geez RVN's is sale to Madrid is probably the second worst deal behind the acquisition of Veron.

Not really, you might have noticed that we won the league this year, unlike in previous years. From what I hear, he was disturbing team morale, and all.

Anyway I hope Madrid win it, because I want Beckham to win it. Normally despise Real, but there you go.

Would rather if Valencia were able to get it, but they can't. Would rather Sevilla then Barca and Real.

Bloody hell, I see MSI is trying to get Manchester United and Inter into a bidding war for Tevez with the hope of getting a £27m price-tag knocked out.

From listening to Spanish pundit Graham Hunter this afternoon his take on the sale of RVN slightly differs from that take. According to Hunter (who had a conversation with a member of the Man United board), Ruud was sold because they (the club) thought he was losing it somewhat and that he was going on downward spiral. A downward trend which could see him becoming European Golden Boot winner...
