**Official** 'My Current World XI' Thread

Wasn't too long ago that Ntini was more or less considered the best fast bowler in the world, this was while McGrath was still playing as well. Funny what some poor one-day form can do to your Test reputation around here.
Gotta put a Kiwi in the side for the sake of patriotism, mate.

Nothing on Ntini :D

I thought this would be fun trying to select a World XI today , based on Cricketers Currently active (post retirements etc.)

My Test World XI would be -

Mathew Hayden
Stephen Fleming
Ricky Ponting
Kumar Sangakkara
Mohammed Yousuf
Rahul Dravid
Michael Clarke
Brett Lee
Shane Bond
Makhaya Ntini
Muralitharan

Any thoughts ....

Your selections....
Aren't the Poms ranked 2 in the world? Not one Pommie in there - good stuff.:p

fwiw (tests):
Hayden
Hussey
Ponting
Dravid
Yousuf
Pietersen
Sangakkara or Gilchrist (can't split them tbh)
Flintoff (assuming he's fit)
Bond (with Lee as cover for when Bond sadly and inevitably breaks down)
S Clark
Murali
12th man: Lee or Ntini or G Smith or Harbajan Singh (the latter depending on venue).

This team bats down to 8. My concern is Flintoff and Bond in a four man attack means that by lunch on day 1 there might only be 2 bowlers left.

Hussey is out of position, but he just has to be there, at the expense of Strauss/ Smith/ Cook. For a World XI, don't think Cook has done enough for long enough yet, but is a real prospect in the medium to long term.

Flintoff plays in my team as a bowler, so if he's injured or not up to it, he'd be replaced with a bowler. Imo, Australia have shown that if you have 4 bowlers of real quality, you don't ned an all rounder, though having one is a great bonus for the balance of any team.

Eventhough this guy ever plays tests.
:)
Yes. Not many spinners can play for a side that has Shane Warne already. Australia havent played since Warne retired.

I think we might see more of Hogg now even in the longer version of the game. I do like his bowling.

Not many would play Second XI cricket for their teams so that Beau Casson can get a game either. Admittedly that was a few seasons back, but Hogg has never been a tremendously good first class bowler so to name him in a World XI seems exceedingly odd. I'm sure you know that though.
