Qatar, Baharin, UAE, Kuwait, Saudi, Jordan etc were in Moscow's pocket ?Of course.
That's right, the USSR! Most of the Arab world was firmly in Moscow's pocket due the the US' support of Israel.

A token, unsupported gesture against a super-power that is also a major trading partner AND has reacted adversely against such measures in the past is very different from making such a gesture against a country like ZimbabweYeah and boycotting a Zimbabwe tour is really going to work, isn't it ?
Therein lies the sad truth. Such stands shouldn't be about what can be gained, but by simply being the right thing to do. It's a sad indictment on us that to be called idealistic is considered an insult.A token, unsupported gesture against a super-power that is also a major trading partner AND has reacted adversely against such measures in the past is very different from making such a gesture against a country like Zimbabwe
Seriously, what do you think would happen if Australia boycotted the Olympics?
Reform - no
Admission of guilt - no
Worsening relations - yes
Economic sanctions against Oz - probably
In short, nothing to be gained
In Zimbabwe's case, it is another fall nail in Mugabe's coffin
The guy barely survived the last Presidential nomination ballot by his own party. Now is not the time to show any support whatsoever for his regime
Obviously that doesn't apply in case of China. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. - Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer
So in short - If Zimbabwe were a super power, Australia would not really have boycotted any cricket tour to that country ? Thatks for the morality lesson anyway. We all are impressed.A token, unsupported gesture against a super-power that is also a major trading partner AND has reacted adversely against such measures in the past is very different from making such a gesture against a country like Zimbabwe

Obviously you know nothing of China - SANCTIONS HAVE NOT WORKED BUT EXPOSURE IS STARTING TO TURN IT AROUNDSo in short - If Zimbabwe were a super power, Australia would not really have boycotted any cricket tour to that country ? Thatks for the morality lesson anyway. We all are impressed.
You a student by any chance, 16tos?Therein lies the sad truth. Such stands shouldn't be about what can be gained, but by simply being the right thing to do. It's a sad indictment on us that to be called idealistic is considered an insult.
How exactly is the US denying human rights to a country? The US is occupying a country, just like China, shall they be boycotted too? My friends we do not live in an ideal world.
When a regime obviously and openly denies human rights to a country on the scale that has been seen in Zimbabwe, international politics forces itself to shake its finger and tut. But when it is done more discreetly as in the case of China (or the US... or Russia...) its easy for the world to turn a blind eye.
Occupation of a country mostly, an cases like Panama in recent history. How exactly is the US denying human rights to a country?![]()
Dude, do you even know what you're talking about ??"Going over to Moscow" doesn't have to be "converting to godless Communism". Most of the Middle East was very pro-Russian as well as India, but it didn't mean they were communist.
Turn what around ? Most human rights organizations and activists (Chinese included) have admitted thaat despite greater economic prosperity for the middle classes, China remains a totalitarian state with no real improvements in human freedom aspects.Obviously you know nothing of China - SANCTIONS HAVE NOT WORKED BUT EXPOSURE IS STARTING TO TURN IT AROUND
The fact that our government may have to pay $2 million in tax-payers money .
Since you know so much About China, Why dont you educate the Ignorant populace of CW about their excellent Human Rights Records in Tibet and even in other parts of China ? And obviously I know nothing about China, except that I see 1000s of Tibetan refugees in pretty much every city of India living like refugees for close to 50 years, having spoken to a no. of them and have friends with a no. of second generation tibetan refugees living in India is obviously knowing nothing. But as you said, you know everything about China, please do educate us on their stellar Human Rights record in Tibet.Obviously you know nothing of China - SANCTIONS HAVE NOT WORKED BUT EXPOSURE IS STARTING TO TURN IT AROUND
I dont want anything, I am just pointing the HYPOCRISY here. It's not a moral stand as it is being made out to be, It is just a stand populist stand, period.Let me guess what your solution would be
Whilst all bar one or two countries WORLDWIDE attend the games, you want little old Australia to carry the can that the US, Europe and the sub-continent won't and, in the process, achieve ZERO
And in Zimbabwe, whilst the rest of the cricketing world DOES NOTHING you want Australia, in effect, to do the same by giving their implicit approval to the country's situation by turning up.
Sorry but that is absolute crap.
Nope, why?You a student by any chance, 16tos?
Given that India is so deeply affected by Tibet, it's pretty surprising that your Government has chosen to recognise China's definition of that country as a means to facilitating trade between India and ChinaSince you know so much About China, Why dont you educate the Ignorant populace of CW about their excellent Human Rights Records in Tibet and even in other parts of China ? Idealism is such a stereotypical student trait, thats all.Nope, why?
Irrelevant and a cheap shot. Sanz made no comment on India's China policy and that's not something that is being discussed in this thread. I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I dare say he'd be just as disappointed in the hypocrisy present in the Indian govt as he is with the Aus govt.Given that India is so deeply affected by Tibet, it's pretty surprising that your Government has chosen to recognise China's definition of that country as a means to facilitating trade between India and China
And here I was thinking that Australia had a mortgage on hypocrisy![]()
