The over-exaggerated stereotype that South Africa can't play spin in ODIs probably had something to do with it.
The fact that the pitch will flatten out after 10 overs and then start to die in the second innings would be my guess. Vaughan and Bell just need to survive early on and then they should be away once it flattens out.

Perm is right.. GGG is talking rubbish.

Set a platform for KP and the middle order is their main priority imo.

I would send Flintoff at 3 considering the kind of start England have had, they certainly need to gain some momentum.

IMO, Flintoff is wasted batting at 6 or 7, so its better for him to come up the order and make use of the Power-Plays.

This is just bad batting by Vaughan, it's not swinging that much, he might as well just go for a slog.
Are you watching this game or not? The ball isn't swinging heaps, but it has been accurate bowling and a fair bit of bounce was extracted as well. Vaughan isn't going to score runs whether he slogs or stonewalls.

I was thinking the same thing actually. Given the cautious start, these openers just cannot get out... it would really put Eng under some pressure.

Solid start is needed and dont think Flintoff is needed now. Bell can do it, if he stays there for another 4 overs. No need to risk now with Flinoff wicket. He is good at the middle order with pieterson. Better bat him there..

Vaughan really hitting out here, two runs through the offside. Great bowling from Pollock and Langeveldt though, they've been using the conditions to their favour.

Well, it depends on when the next wicket falls, really. If it falls now, then this defensive start would make no sense if Flintoff was sent out. Obviously if England lose their first wicket at 70 though, it's a different story, so it could be a viable option.

Bell gone. Pathetic shot born out of pressure. England in all sorts of bother. Strauss being left handed could find this easier to face mind... but will need to get on with it.
