It really depends on the total. Australia's usually very good at restricing the opposition to a small score when bowling first, which results in a lot of 7-8 wicket wins, but when it comes to the actual chasing, anything over 250 is nervous stuff. Theoretically I'd back Australia to chase just about any score given the quality of the batting, but collapses seem to happen a lot more chasing. And I think people tend to forget all the games where Australia make 280 and win by 100+ runs, compared to some shocking efforts defending recently.Really? I'd back Australia to chase any total 9 times out of 10. For defending a total it'd be more like 7/10.
But the recent failures have coincided with a significantly different attack to most of those comprehensive wins. As such I think they take more prominence over past successes in consideration of present ability. And I think people tend to forget all the games where Australia make 280 and win by 100+ runs, compared to some shocking efforts defending recently.
Trust CricInfo...CricInfo said:The two umpires from Pakistan, Aleem Dar and Asad Rauf, have taken their positions and the Australians are setting themselves up in the field. Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, the West Indian openers, are striding out to the middle
