Super Eight

Cricket Web: All-Time Legend
No WI were always going to be D2 no matter the result if the got through to the Super 8s and Ireland took Pakistan's place as D1, the recent match had no significance to that. Therefore NZ vs WI on Thursday.
Apologies, shall look forward to the game even more.

Haha no need to apologize, just to explain abit further, for tourists and TV scheduling reasons (im assuming) they wanted the Super 8 fixtures to be well known in advance. So an Australian would know that his side would be A1 if they got through and a South African would know his side would be A2 if his side got through and could therefore make hotel and travel arrangements for the different countries well in advance, as opposed to late last night after the decider between Aus and SA. Also it's fair since everyone plays each other in the Super 8s anyways, it doesn't make a difference where you finish on the table to whether you are A1 or A2 etc. So the A1, A2, B1, B2 etc were all decided ages ago and had no bearing on the group table finishes.

And in the case where a seeded team exits like Pakistan who were D1, the team that removes them takes their place as D1, not that D2 gets pushed up to D1, so WI stayed D2 regardless of Pakistan's early exit and Ireland became D1. Hope that makes sense :)

I wonder what odds you would have got for neither Pak or Ind being in the Super 8. Amazing.
My mate John said the odds were surprisingly short, actually.

i would love it if ireland beat england though...that would be so great...the irish players could rub it in joyce's face...i think the irish and the scotish should be bit more loyal to their country instead of playing for england...because if they sacrifices their "need" to play test cricket, they could potentially bring test cricket to their own country...but some sacrifice is needed from the top class players...
England is really The British Isles anyway. Anyone who says differently is flying in the face of over 100 years of cricketing tradition. Oh, sure some would argue that Ireland gained independence in 1922 & Scotland resigned from the UK cricket council in 1992, but both moves were clearly inspired by the I$C$C$.

Seriously tho, Joyce is now 28 (IIRC) so if he wants to play test cricket for Ireland they'd have to gain status by (realistically) 2015 at the outside. Not going to happen for mine. Can't blame a bloke for wanting to test himself at the highest level.

A compromise I'd like to see would be for guys like him & (say) Tikolo be allowed to play tests for England or whoever & play ODIs still for their country of birth.

Thanks for clearing that up

Could be intresting apart from the potential logistical and fixture nightmare that it would cause

IMO, I won't really call it Super 8's rather i would say its the good old Super 6's since i really can't see Bangladesh or Ireland creating any flutters in the Super 8's which in a way is a bad thing for the WC.

But having said that i might add that Bangladesh and Ireland deserve to play in the Super 8's ahead of India and Pakistan because both these have teams have been awful in this WC to say the least.

Damn very disappointed & shocked that India & Pakistan are out, but on the bright side looking foward to my time in the windies later this week to see the battle of Britain in Guyana & the Australia & England matches in Barbados.

1st Super 8's game between WI and AUS should be a cracker of a game, how do you expect the pitch at Antigua to play would it be as flat as the pitch at the St.kitts.

Would love to see Bangladesh win more than one game in the Super 8's. Their best bet for a couple of wins would probably be against Ireland and possibly one of WI/England/NZ, depending who plays worse on the day.

IMO, The WC should be won by a team which has been the most dominant and consistent over the 4 year period between before the WC and from 03 to 07 Aussies have clearly been the most dominat side in world cricket, so ideal thing would be for them to win this WC again be crowned as the deserving world champions.
So i want the aussies to win the WC and i hope they can do it this time around too.

Bangladesh have a more realistic chance of beating England, i can't see them beating either NZ or WI TBH.

the most dominant team? South Africa not australia over the last year. and this is a tournament not hte rakings so the top teams shouldn't always win...

bangladesh beat nz in the warm up but again it was a warm up....i wouldn't want bangladesh winning against WI anyway because their the home team and WI doesn't need more trouble than they already have...I really want to see the WI beat the aussies and put a end to their wc winning streak!

LA ICE- E, What makes you think that South Africa were the most dominant side during 03 to 07, correct me if i am wrong they didn't win a single series whether its test or odi's outside South Africa (barring a 3-2 odi series win in Pakistan) during 03-07.

So how are South Africans any better than India (to a lesser extent) or Sri lanka who are also equally invincible at home like South Africa are.

Bugger. I move house on friday so I'll most likely miss that one, and then it's the missus' birthday when we play SL. Might take her to a restaurant with sky sports

Looking forwards to beating the Aussies on Easter Sunday tbh. Might sneak the boozer for that one. Getting rid of my sky sportrs in conjunction with the house move, pretty gutted really, but I'll have to find a way to watch these England games.

Ireland isn't in Britain :p

Have a great time mate!

Because South Africa whilst being nearly unbeatable at home (India are not) actually do win some games away from home. They progressed to the Champions Trophy Semi Final but where was Sri Lanka and India?
