*Official* English Football Season 2006-07

GIMH

Norwood's on Fire
August. Hopefully it will be in the Championship as well.

I would like see some of the lower leagues in England, I've seen the Premiership twice at Highbury and Old Trafford and whilst I enjoyed it, it would be good to see something different.

David Nugent called up and Ronaldo shows where his confidence comes from:p

Nugent eh? Is he as good as he is cracked up to be?
Well if you can get up here, I'll show you the delights of a matchday at PP, no problem whatsoever

The fact that Nugent has been called up shows how dire our forward strength in depth is. Chris Greenacre anybody?

It's injustice that he is being punnished for playing in League 1

I saw on on the headlines when I flicked on Eurosport News before I left for work and Rafa Benitez said the England team would benefit if they could field their reserve squads in the lower divisions, like in Spain. Thoughts? I think it would have some merit.

Nah, don't. In Norway it always creates a fair bit of controversy because the quality of the second teams vary a lot from game to game; thus a team fighting for promotion might have to face a Elite League-level team because said elite team don't want their reserves to drop down a division. The effect might admittedly be smaller in England with play-off rules, but it's a fair disadvantage to hard-working lower-level teams all the same.

Not bad but how would a player be promoted to the first team.

They just name him in the first team. They're basically the same club, they'd all train together but different teams would get named for the 1st and 2nds.

Agree with what Vimes said - to offer a similar comparison, in one of the two Essex club cricket leagues, the rubbish one (T. Rippon) has the 1sts, 2nds, and all that playing in the same league (obviously different divisions though) and teams often flood their 2nds or whatever with 1st teamers to get promotion or whatever. Makes it massively unfair.

Lille get a fine of €61,734 for poor security & organisation along with the conduct of their team post-Giggs goal, while United gets a fine of €9,256 for fireworks being set off by fans.

I'd be violently anti & it'd never happen over here. Our Championship gets over twice as many fans as Spain's second flight on average. That's at least partly because all the teams involved are genuine football clubs, not the big boys' stiffs. Norwich v Ipswich or Leeds v Wednesday are fixtures with a lot more resonance than (say) QPR v Chelsea "B".

Younger players can always be sent out on loan to lower league (& even Premership now) teams for experience.

Absolutely disgraceful. If an English club had acted like Lille they'd have been banned

Looks like another uninspiring probable England XI for tomorrow. If Lennon is stuck on the left wing it will be absolutely ridiculous. At least England now have pace up front and so will be able to stretch teams that way as it doesn't look like England will have any width as per usual.

Haha, sounds almost like the time David James played up front for Man City only this is a completely random 52 year old guy.

While I also see Inter are willing to invest £20m to bring Cesc Fabregas to the club and are looking at Tomas Rosicky.
What makes then think £20m would be enough to get Fabregas?

I'd think that Arsenal would laugh at them for that sort of offer.
