Thinking a bit outside the square, do you put Symonds at 7 and Watson/Hodge at 5? Symonds has generally done better up the order, but might be the most adaptable of the three... (although I think Hodge would make a decent fist of it at 7)

Symonds really needs to stay at 5, IMO. He's been so good there for so long, you can't just take him out. I don't think he's all that adaptable down the order anyway. I'm sure he'd do okay, but he's far more dangerous with a bit of time at the crease.

It's either going to be Hodge out, or Hodge at 6 with Hussey at 7 and either Watson or Hayden out.

I would probably drop Watson - the top order is pretty settled at the moment i think. Symonds wont bowl 10 overs first game back i dont think - Clarke and Hodge and maybe Hussey might all bowl a few.

I think the ideal thing to do would be to go for a straight-forward switch between Hodge and Symo.

Sending Hodge down at 6 isn't a good idea since he takes time to get his innings going and can't see him getting much time to do that at #6.

Hodgey was always a back-up to Symo, so he shouldn't be disappointed if he is the unlucky one to be dropped. But he has done his chances no harm the way he has played.

Watson is doing ok atm batting at no.7,IMO. He is a strong bloke and certainly he has added a few big shots in his arsenal and he shouldn't have much trouble in clearing the small grounds in the Caribbean.

Though got to say i was suprised he wasn't given a single over in yesterday's match probably a sign he might be dropped when Symo comes back.

I'd drop Hayden personally, he's one of my favourite players but I just don't feel safe with him there. With Watson opening, I do, but it wont happen.

I think if Haydos gets dropped atm then the decision to pick him up for the WC would look really stupid, and thats something the aussies won't do atm if he keeps throwing his wicket away then maybe he might be replaced by Watto during the Super 8's.

Btw, Aussie have become the first team to qualify for the Super 8's.

Pup, out of interest, are you an Aussie who happens to live in lndia, or an Indian who has decided to adopt the Australian team - apologies if you've already explained this...

pup11 is an Indian guy who grew up with cricket, got sick of watching India's spineless performances, and decided to support a team that actually wins most of its matches so that he didn't have to suffer the emotional scars of being an Indian supporter.

Just pre-emptin'.

Australia haven't actually qualified for the Super 8s yet. If Scotland won both their remaining matches, Australia could miss out on NRR.

South Africa and Australia will qualify simultaneously if South Africa beats Scotland.

Matt79, I am Indian mate, but i have been supporting Australian cricket for a long time i just love the Baggygreen culture and to say i support Aussies because they win a lot of games is not fair because no matter whether the aussies win or not i would still support them.

I also have a lot of relatives living in Australia so you can count that as another reason.

Do you support Aus when they play India pup?

Yup, Fiery i do support the Aussies when they play against India.

But hey don't get me wrong there i really am patriotic towards my country but i don't consider the Indian team as representatives of my country, they are bunch of men employed by the BCCI who have only have one thought in mind how to make big bucks.

Unfair I think pup. I don't think Indian players are any more motivated by money than those of any other country tbh.

Come and spend some time in India Fiery and you will understand what i am talking about mate.

Bloody politicians are running the game in India because they know that the kind of money that cricket produces in India is even more than annual turn-overs of huge multinational companies.

OK, I'll admit I'm not in the greatest position to comment on Indian cricket and the politics involved but don't you think the players would still play the game even if they weren't being paid? Being professional and having to be as good as possible to maximise their earning potential suggests to me they would be trying their hardest when playing for their country. I just find it difficult to comprehend how you can support another nation over your own.

Fiery, If the Indians are so passionate about playing for their country to play even if they aren't paid, then why didn't they go and play hockey or soccer for India.

But they won't do that because in India only cricket gives you fame and money. Playing well is hardly a criteria, for eg: a player like Raina[now we all know how good he is] gets half the money Gilchrist gets annually from CA just by doing a single endorsement in India.

As i already said i am very patriotic towards my country and there is no way i would support other country over my own, but cricket is an exception.

I support Indian hockey team over Australian[or any other country for that matter] hockey team or for that matter in any other sport, even though we truly suck in all those sports.
