Liverpool's home form is championship winning form. They're halfway there.
They've been in this 3rd/4th position limbo for over a decade, I don't see anything to suggest they're going to bridge the gap - not without a change of management anyway.

That was a true team in a weaker era (they were up against the mighty Newcastle who hadn't won squat for decades when Hansen made his famous remark, if I remember rightly) and it was a bit of freak the way so many players came through anyway. CDMs' youngsters are a bunch of mixed nationality mercenaries.
Like Fabregas signing an 8 year contract? Yep no loyality there.

Saw it on Eurosport news this morning that Robinho said he turned down a move to Tottenham because they were too small of a club for him to join. Even if it is remotely true, I guess a certain poster on here would think he is a smart man.
I heard he was worried about condemning his immortal soul to an eternity in the fiery pits of Hades, myself. Rightly, IMHO.

I can see Arsenal becoming a dominant force in afew seasons if they keep their squad together mostly with a few additions.

I'm concerned about the legality of that though. Isn't the max like 5 years?
What do you base that off, what's on football manager? Wayne Rooney signed a 6-year deal when he signed for your team and Pepe Reina had a even longer contract at Villerreal.

Tbf Craig, contracts are basically meaningless these days.
Yes & no; players under contract to one club have always moved to others. The real difference nowadays, of course, is players being able to move for free when their contracts expire. Back in the pre-Bosman days clubs would have to pay a fee (often set by a tribunal) for players who were out of contract.

Yeah that's true, but Scaly's point was that just because Fabregas has signed a contract doesn't mean he'll stay for 8 years.

No, but it means if he does move we'll get top dollar for him. The length of his contract reflects his value to us & his youth (still not 20, IIRC).

Still 19 until May. Amazing really as he seems he has been around a lot longer and is still that young.

Just because somebody is a foreigner, doesn't mean they all motivated by the pound. I mean the likes of Bergkamp stayed for more then 10 years, and if you went back further then Liam Brady as well (shame he had to ruin it by playing for Juventus) and I'm sure they are plenty of examples, even looking at Halsey's own club. Look at Sol Campbell, from Tottenham to Arsenal and Ashley Cole to Chelsea.

And if we went even further to Italy, you would be a deadset goose if you called Javier Zanetti a mercenary just because he is Argentine.

Yeah, but most bug clubs have so much money nowadays that a big transfer isn't going to make too much difference in the grand scheme of things, IMO.

Tbf that may not apply to you lot, given your stadium move, I'm not sure.

To say that every one of Arsenal's lads are mercenaries is a bit ridiculous, to be honest. You could probably say that about every club in the Premiership if that was the case - how many of the players in the Premiership have stayed with the club they were at when they weren't getting paid?

Lifetime loyalty is an extremely rare thing, and if the player is that good, they'd be silly to stay at their original club if it wasn't offering them everything they wanted (eg. staying at Watford when they could be competing for leagues and cups with Chelsea). To me, a mercenary is a player who leaves one of those top clubs to go to another for what would appear to be more money, while not being a huge amount more likely to be in any more competitions - eg. moving from Arsenal to Chelsea.

I think Ashley Cole would have moved from any of the top clubs to be at Chelsea, because that's the kind of guy he stikes me to be. I think if Gary Neville was born in Arsenal and grew up through their academy, he'd have stayed there, too. I don't think that Arsenal has any less ability to keep players than the likes of Manchester United or Barcelona. A smart thing Arsene is doing is learning to bond with very young players, as he only needs three or four of them to stay together throughout the years for the rest of the team to build around them, a la Beckham/Scholes/Giggs/Neville.

Don't get me wrong, I'd hate to see the boy go because there's not too many players I'd rate above him in his position. If he was to go tho I'd prefer the club to get (say) £30mill than a kick in the nads.

Dire stuff in the CDMs v Blackburn game so far. Chief poseur messed up an early good chance before getting his pet lip out and deciding not to bother trying after that.

Reading paying $13 vs. Man U, man that's so tempting. Are major underdog matches like that generally so high?
