*Official* English Football Season 2006-07

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. I haven't placed a soccer (sorry, football :p) bet in a while, but I decided to have a look at some matches tonight seeing as I'm having a late night, and saw Reading at $13, whereas in the past I've seen underdogs away from home against top teams go at like $8-9 max.

Mind you, and my ignorance of English football may be showing here, but hasn't Reading had a fairly decent year?

Just mentioned by Jeff on Soccer Saturday that Steve Coppell could concievably be next United manager. Interesting, never really crossed my mind.

I wouldn't if I were you. They may have a chance if they play their full strength side, but, once again according to Jeff on SS, Reading are resting a number of players.

Steve's yet another ex-United player-turned-manager who has his name on the big long list of "after SAF..." manager material. I think people often tout Hughes around but I'm personally not overly impressed with Blackburn in general. Steve or Roy would be more to my liking - but I don't want SAF to go anytime soon so we'll see when it happens.

EDIT: And yeah, Steve has said on many occasions that he is playing his 'reserve' side while the likes of Ronaldo will be taking the field against Reading, so that'll explain the odds.

Don't want Mark Hughes, not really impressed me as a manager. Keano seems to be doing alright at Sunderland, as has Coppell at Reading (and Palace before that).

Fergie has surprised me this season, I was beginning to think he was past it myself, though he has proved me wrong this year. Unsure on how long I want him to stay.

If i was a Man Utd fan i'd want Keane to have some top-flight experience as a manager before even considering him as the replacement. Should add Steve Bruce to the list of ex-United players-turned-managers as well.

Incidentially if i was Alex Ferguson i'd seriously consider retiring at the end of this season if Man Utd win the Premiership. Nothing like leaving whilst at the top of your game.

Agreed. Though personally, I think he wants the European Cup again.

As for Keane, also agreed.

Have I mentioned before that the FA cup is a pointless, silly competition. It really matters very little in the grand scheme of things despite what Cornish people might think.

Reading paying $13 vs. Man U, man that's so tempting. Are major underdog matches like that generally so high?
Worth some small change, but certainly not worth betting any sort of real money on. Reading almost beat the Mancs early season IIRC, and are a decent side.

I know I always do this, but at this point I'd like to point out that Steve Coppell, the player, was groomed at Tranmere Rovers (and you can hear it in his accent). That's all.

Anyway, great win for the Mighty Whites today, Shuker getting two. Since I had my babies, we've turned our poor form into two wins out of two, and England have beaten Australia twice at Cricket. They are my good luck charms I tell ya.

The whites.....are goin up...

Only because he was at Liverpool Uni while playing for Tranmere. :p

Fairly dire start from us so far. Tbh, the FA Cup is fast becoming the Mickey Mouse Cup II, what with everyone playing their reserves.

Yea, football devouring its own soul - what's left of it. The international game will go next, already have all this 'injury' farce for friendlies.
