Agreed. I have a young child so don't get out much so it's like having some mates around to watch the game with you.Match threads are one of the best things about CW imo.
Yep Brett Lee 145 and Tait 160 - obviously something's wrongthe aussie speeed gun is farked...
To be fair, I think a lot of the people who were writing him off hadn't seen him bowl in domestic cricket. It's easy to see why, leaving his domestic record aside, he could be viewed as a Fidel Edwards sort of character based on the two tests and one ODI he'd played until today. He is capable of being a lot more accurate than he was on Friday though, as he showed this afternoon, and also in the PM's XI match against England a couple of months ago. And obviously, he bowls a lot of wicket taking deliveries. It's just a matter of how often he has his good days as opposed to his bad ones at international level.I think some people here owe Mr Tait an apology - today was very high quality as well as being extremely quick.
There's no reason why he cant be very successful in test cricket bowling like that.
It possibly was, but I was referring more to bowlers since then. He probably was the fastest of his time and before, and it's hard to compare i guess post-then.It has, presumably, but why did no-one else get bruised through them in Tyson's day and before?
They can't ever have been that bad. Larwood, for example, however fast he may or may not have been, struck many a painful blow (most notably, of course, on Woodfull and Oldfield at Adelaide in 1932\33, but they're only the 2 most notable of 100s of occasions). But never was he reported to have bruised a batsman through his pads.
If Tyson's case wasn't unique, why would anyone (never mind our Richie) even bother mentioning it?
Personally, I'm going to wait a little longer for proof of consistency. He did bowl well today though, 153 from the first ball was quick too. If he stays together for a while he may well become more consistent.I think some people here owe Mr Tait an apology - today was very high quality as well as being extremely quick.

First time I've seen him bowl this season and I was impressed with the advances he's made in his actionPersonally, I'm going to wait a little longer for proof of consistency. Yeah, they seemed to have been pretty generous in the last couple of games. When we played Aus, the spinners were pretty much in the low 100ks all the time, and Saj and Plunkett were pushing 150.He reached 99 mph today, something wrong with the speed guns maybe...........
And yet, amazingly enough, even while his accuracy was good, he took just 1 wicket...First time I've seen him bowl this season and I was impressed with the advances he's made in his action
Anyway, he's far and away the quickest bowler in the world and deserves an extended run IMO because pace like that can be gold
I'd certainly never seen him bowl 95mph inswingers, which he was in that SCG game. Funnily enough, of course, the game he ended-up bowling far worse in was the one where he actually initially looked more dangerous. To be fair, I think a lot of the people who were writing him off hadn't seen him bowl in domestic cricket. Anyway, that delivery he bowled today would make him the third bowler to hit the 160 mark (99.6 mph) since speed guns became the norm. Though I think there's been a couple of wildly inaccurate readings for medium pacers that had them bowling in that range as well.
They are good enough to tell me that he wasn't bowling at 99mph.Haha, gotta love this distrust of the speedguns.
Your eyes are better pieces of equipment, are they?
I repeat, I have seen a ball being bowled at 100mph, and one being bowled at 90mph, and there is a fairly big margin. How can you be more certain about that than a scientific instrument?
The speed-gun is infinately more reliable than the human eye.
