Well, if he scores runs, then good on him! We all know the lad can bat but I reckon he'll get hammered when bowling.
Yeah, I don't rate his bowling one bit but I still would have picked him. Clarke/White/Symonds to share the spin duties for the 5th bowler.. perfectly fine really.

I'm quite dissappointed that Hogg has been left out, i've said it many times, but i'll say it again, he's a top class ODI bowler, and seems to be underrated by most fans, but often imo by the selectors as well. Hopefully it's just to do with the rotation policy though, and he's back in the team next time round.

With Watson out, White had to be included, and it's clear to me that these two will be competing with each other for quite sometime for the All-rounder spot. Mind you, i'd be all for both of them playing in the starting XI further down the track if they continue to play well, as both definetly have match winning capabilities imo.

Like Fuller, i'm 100% in agreeance with the Clarke move to 4. Whilst we all know how much of a gun Hussey is, his finishing abilities are 2nd to none, and he's quite often the difference between 240-260 and 260-280. Mind you, Clarkes ability at the death shouldn't go undermined, but i beleive he's best served up the order where he gets a bit more a chance to play himself in, the really turn it up when needed.

It'll be interesting to see how Clark goes in the ODI's with batsmen looking to be more aggressive towards him. We saw how none of the english batsmen got on top of him in the longer form of the game, where quick scoring wasn't a neccessity(sp?), however, in his short limited overs career he has tended to go for a few. Whether it was a confidence issue, a poor run of form, or simply a lack off effectiveness in ODI cricket remains to be seen.

Gee this looks a powerful Austalia batting line up.You have the brutality of hayden and gilchrist, the class of ponting, the touch of clarke and the extreme six hitting ability of symonds and white and also not to forget the number 1 one day player mike hussey the ultimate finisher.Australia bowling is a bit of a worry I feel.Clark was outstanding in the tests but will England and NZ try to hit him of a length,i doubt it England apart from pietersen haven't got any other player to take the attack the bowler.Bell dismissal was a classic picture, a rank full toss and he tried clip it to the leg side:laugh:

White > Watson @ 7, IMO.
Yeah, there's no way Watson should bat at 7 when he comes back into the team. Top four would be ideal. Equally though, I don't think there's any doubt that Watson should be picked ahead of White in the forseeable future. He played a key role in both the last two tournaments before he got injured.

So this IMO would be a probable Australian WC team with everyone fit
Hayden
Gilchrist
Ponting
Clarke
Symonds
Hussey
Watson/White (Watson would take it if fit for the world cup)
Lee
Johnson
Bracken
McGrath

Clark could easily get a spot ahead of Johnson if he bowls well this series. After his strong test performances they won't leave him out if he's actually bowling well in ODIs, especially given that he's likely to be a regular fixture for a few years.

Hayden's not assured of a place either. He could miss out to Watson when he returns, or to another opener if he fails. And of course, if Watson does come in for White he will bat higher up.

The rest of the team is set though, with Hogg possibly rotating in for the 4th seamer at times during the WC.

Do you think his metronomical line could hinder him in the one day game.Taken 25 wickets in 18 games at an average of 33 and a economy of 5.5.Batsmen could decide to use their feet but he isn/t really going to go for plenty of runs that maybe a johnson would. These players are certainties for the WC Final X1 barring injury
Ponting
Gilchrist
Clarke
Symonds
Hussey
Bracken
Lee
McGrath

There are really 3 positions left, lets have a look at the candidates for these positions

Openers
Hayden
Jaques
Cosgrove

Number 7
Watson
White

4th Bowler
Johnson
Hogg
Clark

Having a "metronomical line" never hurt McGrath in ODIs. I can't see any reason why Clark can't be a very good ODI bowler, particularly when he's getting the new ball later in his career. His record so far isn't great, but he'll be judged more on how he bowls over the next two months.

Talking about England this looks one of the worst squads ever.No discipline in their bowling and no real plan which was obvious to see in the 2020 game.Wheras Bracken mixed his pace up really well with cutters Anderson kept running in and bowling lengthwhich got hammered.England need to bring in Broad and maybe Gough who can bowl very well at the death.Hoggard even though he's not really a one day cricketer should be brought in for experience.I know in the past he can only bowl one length and can become predictable but Lewis is in the squad and he's a similar bowler to Hoggard
This would look a decent team for the CBS
Vaughan
Strauss
Bell
Pietersen
Collingwood
Flintoff
Nixon
Dalrymple
Gough
Broad or Panesar depending on the pitch
Hoggard

Be great to see Hilfenhaus get a game on Sunday down in Hobart.

For mine, he ticks all the boxes - he's young; he's a genuine outswing bowler; he's the leading wicket taker in the Pura Cup and; he's got a good strong action.

Clark and Johnson won't have too many good memories about the last time they played in the same team. New Zealand gave them a hiding in the Chappell Hadlee match but that side also featured the infamous Mick Lewis...

if england win this series without losing a match....can we say that they will win the WC?

This is an intersting Q because just cos the aussies won the ICC CT and the ashes (against a weak england team), they are suddenly huge favourites to win the WC, when earlier in the year, it was the pakistans and the indians etc. that were making all the headlines!

Oh it's another one of those mornings to look forward where you get up and see how many England have lost by this time.
