I would have voted for Zaheer Khan if he didn’t betray India on 2011 England tour.

Vaas has a very poor record in SA, England and Australia while Zaheer has been respectable there.

However, Vaas was much more competent at home while Zaheer was by SC standards sub-par at home.

I think in the end, they are near equal as bowlers, but Vaas was probably more valuable to his side than Zaheer, but Zaheer between 2007-2011 was better than Vaas at any point in his career.

This one is really close. As much as I loved Vaas, he was one of those bowlers who really suffered from a lack of pace. Zaheer could crank it up a fair bit at times.

Tough one to call this. Zaheer imo was more potent with the new ball and could really exploit helpful conditions. Vaas could be similar, but probably his worth was bowling well on really unresponsive pitches and being canny with his cutters and change ups. At times it felt like Vaas was 'bowling dry' to preserve the run rate, possibly due to lack of options other than Murali
Both fine exponents with the older ball. Think this nudges it in Zaheer's favour as he was slightly quicker and consistently got the ball to reverse

EDIT - actually, when ZK was ranked number 3, his rating was only 744!

Vaas was just terrible in Aus, England, and South Africa though. Zaheer wasn’t quite so bad anywhere. Vaas peak might have been good but his lows were terrible.
