First school game tomorrow, and we have a few problems:

a) 10 players
b) No keeper
c) Five bowlers
d) Five batsmen... all of whom are bowling save one who is keeping
Ah yes, to put it lightly, we got slaughtered. They ran uo 184 for 5 in 30 overs and we answered with 88 for 7. I took 6-0-43-2, bowled better than figures suggest though, had to bowl two overs at death, pitch was artifical and so ball sat up off a full length, had their Cheshire opener dropped twice - he made 70-odd not out in the end, etc etc.

I'm starting to think l've offended someone upstairs.

Today - Exeter Uni IV 253 for 5 (Bristow 133*, Furst 68); Bradninch II 150 (Cox 3-19, Mock 3-24).

I bowled the best I have done ever, period - and ended with 8-0-52-0. Not only did I find the outside edge another handful of times, I had two skied drives fall within inches of point, and I hit the stumps but failed the knock the bails off. One day, I'll get some bloody luck.

Other interesting results included our number six sitting padded up for 30 overs while Bristow & Furst enjoyed themselves, then being run out without facing a ball - much hilarity ensued on the boundary. An equally hilarious run-out occurred at 149-8 when their number ten thumped the ball straight to my left at a very straight mid on, where I picked it up cleanly and looked up to see the non-striker, clearly totally oblivious to my existence, 14 yards down the pitch...

Played West of England premier league cricket today.. And it was a bit of a baptism of fire, I don't think I'll be returning any time soon.

We played Bridgwater who beat Somerset two years ago.. With Jason Kerr and another aussie pro whos name I have forgotten

Bowled one over of dross, got smashed, got taken off..
I dropped a catch that came so hard, despite hitting the middle of my hand (at mid off), it still went for four..
Out for 4.. Still at least my scoring shot was a lovely on drive off an aussie pro, you can't do that down on the pub green..

Our pro whos just come back from playing A grade cricket with Justin Langer's club in Sydney got hit for 108.. He opens the bowling

I want to play Kwik Cricket :(

Stepping up a level is always hard.

Fielding is the most nerve-racking.
Hours of thinks "Oh, my god. I hope I dont screw this up", "Oh, my god. I hope I dont screw this up", "Oh, my god. I hope I dont screw this up", "Oh, my god. I hope I dont screw this up",
etc..

Good luck next time. First game is always difficult.

match yesterday
our team was a team with not much xp, and the average age was 20 I think.
we played 40 overs a side.
the team we played had a aussie pro called Shane Markel, and they fielded a side that plays 3 divisions higher then I do atm.
I was brought on at the 23rd over.
bowled well, only one boundry of my first 2 overs.
in my 3rd over I took the wicket of one of there better batsman, caught at deep mid on, very happy with that wicket!
then the coach came in, and i had him in trouble the 1st to balls, his 3rd ball was a sweep for 4.
next over he edged one right low to the keeper! dropped! I was in agony!
in the end i took 1/32 of 6. (as it was a friendly 6 overs per bowler was the deal)
very happy with that, i had a lot of flight and turn. and almost getting there coach out(who scored 70 in the end) was a good feeling
I took a catch too! at deep mid on, nice n steady.
I was no 12(field 11 bat 12) and i scored 1 run, then was caught at mid on.

I feel like that even when i'm playing a school game...

Our firsts at Liverpool got bowled out for 38 today, mainly down to Reon King, bowling 85MPH
to a 16 year old is bowl against nearly every day, mmmmm... should Pros this good be allowed?

International Regular
Chelmsford IVs 201-8 (Chubb 1 CT)
Hutton Vs 201-9 (Chubb 1)

What a match! You can read more about it in my blog. The standard was, as you'd expect, quite low (demonstrating my total lack of ability) but it was gripping at the end.

Whilst I like playing in Essex for Hutton, it isn't quite the same as playing for Upottery in Devon. For a start, it is very difficult just to come into a side not knowing anyone at all and it's quite an alienating experience really. Also, Essex grounds are ugly and big, often bordering other pitches, and so different to East Devon, where almost every ground is a gem. There are other differences that I like though, like the fact that Essex is so much more multicultural. In Devon, the only time you see players of Asian descent is when a touring side visits, and the attitudes of some of the local players unfortunately reflects that. One thing I have noticed, however, is that Essex clubs seem, to me at least, to be somewhat segregated- either a team has a lot of Asian players, such as Wanstead do, or they have few (in the case of Hutton). I don't know if this is just a coincidence or something more.

First proper school cricket today, following yesterday's sublime left-handedness in core PE. from Year 9 & 10 there was the grand total of 7 people in attendance, so it's unlikely we'll get a team together. Still, had a decent net and played spin better than usual.

4-12 for school today, avenged for Saturday's loss with 100 run win. Made 148-2 off 20 overs, with our opener making 76*, and then me and the other spinner took eight wickets between us.
Roll on Merchant Taylors' on Saturday.
