And who is taking Simpson in ATG team??
Averaged 55 as an opener, arguable greatest ever slip fielder and offers a 6th bowling option that would ensure you don't have to change up the team on a spinning wicket.

He's an incredibly versatile and valuable asset and definitely viable.

Not one of the things I'm looking for though, just think he deserved a mention.

Hardly makes the AT Australia team. If he is viable then so are a number of others in Boycott, Smith, Greenidge, Hayden, Sehwag and ofcourse Trumper.

Another meaningless thread when an OP limits the selection to their opinion of who deserves to be in the limited poll....
Who's missing?

And you still haven't retracted the bs statement about me trying to rig the other vote.

If you don't want to participate, just don't.

Were you going to vote for any of those? There are literally only 3, or a maximum of 4 legitimately viable options. Hobbs, Hutton, Sunny and for a few Sutcliffe.

Everything else is to just make up numbers.

Then don't..... Just add those 4 and Barry. Anyways, Grace and Trumper are definitely more viable than Simpson imo.

Where's Matthew Hayden at?

Why do I have to choose an old **** to pair alongside Gavaskar (and also ignore the last 40 years of Test cricket history as well)?

I do respect Hutton's game, but he is my 3rd choice, not second for openers.

Seems OP is ignoring so many comments that not enough openers have been named for an ATG choice....so as I said, a meaningless ATG thread, it's not a "Your ATG Opening combo" but more of a "Which of OP 6 selected openers would you pick as top 2" thread

Hayden, GSmith, Greenidge, and Sehwag should all have been options.

They will only grow more popular as we get more and more evidence over the years and realize the truth that modern opening is ****ing hard.

I guess @ataraxia had it right, so....

Yes, to try to keep it uncluttered, it may not have all of your preferred options, but please just select the one closest.

Sehwag is not an option, I got told by everyone on the forum for weeks how Smith wasn't a viable option, over rated and not a top tier batsman who took advantage of a soft era. Hayden is not an ATG batsman, in any conditions where the pitch offered the slightest hint of assistance, he was poor.

Greenidge I did consider and it was between him and Simpson.

I find it hilarious that Simpson is being questioned by the same person who in the bowling thread voted for all 3 bowlers based on their batting, and advocates for all rounders. He's that equivalent in this scenario, who also did quite well as an opening batsman.

I will see if I can add Greenidge, but at the end of the day it was about who will make the team and that's really between 3 persons, 5 max.

And that's your opinion only...the arrogance, people saying 6 choices not enough so you come back saying 3 is enough with 5 at max...get over yourself

Please see above.

The bowling poll for 3 slots had 7 options. Why list 10 persons to each get 1 vote each? Especially when there are only 5 viable candidates to start.
