Would Shane Warne had averaged 25 had he faced his own attack??

Would Warne had averaged 25 had he faced his own Aussie batting line up....

Following up on the Viv thread, I got the idea for this thread. Question is selfish explanatory....

If he were from a subcontinent team then yes he'd have more or less murali's figures because of how much spin benefits from conditions. If he played for like NZ or Eng then he would average 27-28 (as evidenced by his average excl. McGrath i.e. another ATG ont he team).

Like the Viv thread, we're assuming he's playing for say Zimbabwe and he had to play Australia in addition to his current record. In the other thread Viv was playing for SL

Imagine Warne bowling to India without McGrath wrecking the top order fist lol
Or facing Hayden, Ponting, the Waughs and then Gilchrist. Imo , his average would go up a few points to say the 27ish region. With that, would we still be looking at him the same??

Cricketers are almost universally controlled by their environment, not the other way round, so who knows. Australia weren't bad against leggies on their own turf. Warne may have had more fun in his new home conditions.

He almost certainly would have played England less, and he really liked bowling to them.

Definitely No.
Australia side of 2000 were very good players of spin. There is a reason they whitewashed both PAK and SL overseas and won 2-1 in IND.

Actually only averaged slightly less than his career average against them. If there's a team he loved bowling to it's Pakistan (average 20)

If he was Indian and avoided having to face them, he'd have averaged 22-23 probably.

Then again, he might not have made it to the international stage at all after being spanked by random Indian batsmen in ranji.
In the original question, Warne plays for ZIM.
Would Warne have performed worse than Harbhajan/Raju in IND conditions? Need honest answer not trolling one.

Why would you expect him to be any better in India playing for Zimbabwe than for Australia?

My question was if Warne was Indian, would he have made to national team. Kumble was our no.1 spinner, Harbhajan/Raju were 2nd spinner. So unless Warne performed better than Harbhajan/Raju in IND conditions, he wouldn't have played for IND too much.

We all know Warne was injured from 1998-2003. He was drugged by his mother in 2003 and Zimbabwe had all those issues from 2004 onwards.

Warne would have likely played a few tests here and there from 92-98 as Paul Strang's sidekick. 45 wickets at 42.96 perhaps.

Eddo Brandes would have played Mcgrath's role, i.e. carrying Warne on his shoulders when he was injured.

If he plays for Zimbabwe he plays 5 tests in Indian conditions over a 15 year career.

If Warne was Indian he would have developed into a completely different player more suited to Indian conditions. This is like "if Jimmy Anderson was Australian he wouldn't have played" all over again

Nah he'd never have made it to the test side and Indian pitches would have robbed the world of the most entertaining spinner in history. Which makes sense given Indian pitches ruin just about everything good in cricket.
