Would Shane Warne had averaged 25 had he faced his own attack??

Would Warne had averaged 25 had he faced his own Aussie batting line up....

Nah he'd never have made it to the test side and Indian pitches would have robbed the world of the most entertaining spinner in history. Which makes sense given Indian pitches ruin just about everything good in cricket.
Warne was really entertaining in Indian pitches too. A lot of his deliveries turned a mile from the rough outside the leg stump, and got smashed as well.

Given his shield average is 35, and Australia national XI bats are way more capable than Shield, he's average lot higher in Australia. And without McGrath, he's likely to get shellacked more by India. Pakistan and Sri Lanka may have feasted on him occasionally because now there is Streak instead of McGrath..

However if he played for Zimbos, we could expect his home turfs to be spin paradises, because he would be their best bowler. So my answer is Yes, there and there abouts, may be touch higher, but not 5 run difference.

Honestly I cannot think of a single Australian spinner who played around that era not to have a pretty crap Shield record. Greg Matthews perhaps, but most of his bowling success in the Shield predates Warne.

Even since then, Steve O'Keefe is the only Australian spinner in my lifetime that springs to mind to have a below 30 bowling average who actually played a decent amount of games in said timeframe

I came across 2 Shane Warne records which would be very difficult to break:
1. Most no. Of wickets in a calendar year (96)

2. 50 wickets in a calendar year 8 times. (Murali 6, McGrath 5, Ashwin 4)
Axar could break them if we played England like 10 times a year.

Murali and Ashwin has not played number of test matches per year close enough to Warne

To be fair, some sources refuse to acknowledge the Australia v ICC World XI match in 2005 as an official Test in their stats, thus meaning according to those records Warne took "only" 90 wickets that year - which Murali equalled (from three fewer Tests) the following year.

I think Warne wold have destroyed the Aussie line up in certain conditions. Barring Clarke, I don't see anyone playing him that comfortably. His domestic stats don't matter coz all those games were in Australia, which is not the worst place for leggies but can't imagine those guys playing him that well in Asia/WI/Zim(coz obviously you prepare the pitches to suit your best bowler).

Hayden would have hammered him.
