He was one of those guys who put people where the ball went the previous delivery.

Terrible captain without any game plan and initiative
Chanderpaul always seemed very introverted and self-absorbed. And when captaincy is out of your comfort zone, you're less likely to have confidence in your own ideas so then it becomes reactionary and muddled.

He was indeed. Not good with communicating. He didn’t attend high school.

But having the love for the game should clearly have helped with his cricketing brain.

Later on in life, he’s now a coach and from what I hear, a pretty good one.

I suspect he had a good cricketing brain but captaincy was just too far outside his comfort zone for it to translate.
