I'd completely forgotten that it was Vekic who was at the centre of the Wawrinka/Kyrgios/Kokkinakis argument.

Not sure where this level of tennis is coming from, she's never reached these heights before. Ironically, she's somewhat of a product of the UK Tennis system having been coached and trained here during her teens.

Great tournament for Sun, let's see if she can kick on from this. You'd think the US hard courts would suit.

The Women's Draw is such a mess. The second highest seed (Paolini) is only there because of Keys' injury. You'd think Rybakina should win, but perhaps Navarro is playing the best tennis.....

Loving the entertainment being shown by Alcaraz and Paul

Both players showing some unbelievable quality of shot

Other than being born in NZ, there’s not exactly a whole lot Kiwi about her is there? Seems to be more a product of Switzerland and the US College system.

Lovely interview, the QF with Vekic is very winnable…
Late to the party, but most nz tennis players are.

Couple at old workplace had a daughter big into tennis. She spent most of her teens overseas, then did uni in the US at ivy league. She never made it in tennis to my knowledge, but all the kiwi hopefuls have to go overseas as teens or they'll never be a thing.

This also applies to motorsport kids who want a crack at F1 or Indy, though for the less cashed up Australia is a good option with an eye to a paid drive in V8 Supercars. SVG and Scotty Mac never had the dads for an F2 campaign. Dixon took the cheaper US option for the small chance Villeneuve/Montoya route.

We have domestic pathways for rugby, league and cricket. That's about it. Out geography does not reward talent.

Djokovic vs Alcaraz/Medvedev. Really want to believe either of them can win against Djokovic…☹
Alcarez won against him last year in Wimbledon final.

I've not watched all of Wimbledon, but I don't think its been a classic Slam, the competition needs an Alcarez v Novak final and hoping Rybakina murders Krej and whoever in the final.

No. More. Random. Female. Slam. Winners. Please.

We had Gauff, Sabalenka and Swiatek win the last 3 slams?? Unless you are talking about Wimbledon last year?

Would agree with that. I don't think Alcaraz, Djokovic or Sinner have been near their best, and illness eventually did for Sinner. That they've still been able to make it to the latter stages highlights the predictableness of Men's tennis.....which is of course the complete opposite to the Women's. Grass just seems to throw up such random stuff, I'd really like to see Vekic win it, a real feelgood story for someone who came so close to quitting.
