Why wasn't this player included for England in the 99 WC?

I always rated this player and felt he had genuine all round ability, used primarily as a quick bowler.

Dominic Cork, quick bowler, who could also bat.

He was in the 96 WC.

Not included in the 99 WC. What is the reason for this as England had a abysmal campaign.

Cork had a lot of issues going on with the struggles at Derbyshire so the selectors felt his head wasn't right.

A bit of a shame, I felt he should've played more for England.

Maybe he had a different personality, I could be wrong.

Cork hadn't played ODIs for a couple of years by that point. They had other all rounders - Hollioake, Ealham, Austin, Flintoff.

Cork was drafted for the test series for the WI in 2000.

Was he's performance at Derbyshire not good enough?

I think it was more that his performances for England had been uneven and had at that time declined from his dynamic early years in the team. 2000 was very much a comeback for him.

Cork certainly had a firey/emotional personality. By the end of his career though he seemed to have a achieved greater balance and only played up to his former reputation in the manner of a pantomime villain.

Bit of a shame, thought he should have played more and for sure, a dynamic cricketer.

I guess they gave that Surrey lad McGrath, that all rounder from Surrey and Irani chances.

Cork was more a bowling all-rounder; a decent number eight but his batting often flattered to deceive. Irani, McGrath, Ealham, and the Hollioakes were more batting all-rounders; number sevens who could bowl ten overs on a good day, but you didn't necessarily need to rely on a full allocation.

Matthew Fleming was another such player (see Sharjah, 1997, also Dougie Brown).

Cork wasn't good. Deceiving to judge by county stats which was poor quality. His batting especially was not up to International standard, he was an occasionally useful tail ender at best

You see the same thing in Grade cricket. Most FC bowlers are genuine all-rounders in grade but tail enders the next level up

Who do you rate more as a bat out of Cork and Croft?

Surprised Knight didn't get a game. Maybe Hussain was opening Stewart? Or they preferred D Maddy?

He played the matches in 2003 world cup.

Yeah Hussain and Stewart were opening. Stewart was also captain, wicket keeper and, one assumes, also drove the team bus.

Croft, Ealham, Fair brother, Atherton, Wells, Fraser, along the other players on the squad.

Fleming, Maddy, Cork, Caddick, Crawley, Tudor, Ian Ward, Alleyane, Adams, J Snape, K Parsons, Sidebottom, Butcher, I Salisbury, others who could've been in the squad. Adams and Alleyane played in south Africa 2000.

Atherton another opener, too many openers in that squad.

Knight was all set to open but after a couple of pot scores in the warm up games he was surprisingly left out of the team for Hussain.

Do you other players who got left out, I'm sure they named a 30 provisional squad months before the world cup.
