A bit of a shame, I felt he should've played more for England.Cork had a lot of issues going on with the struggles at Derbyshire so the selectors felt his head wasn't right.
Cork was drafted for the test series for the WI in 2000.Cork hadn't played ODIs for a couple of years by that point. They had other all rounders - Hollioake, Ealham, Austin, Flintoff.
Who do you rate more as a bat out of Cork and Croft?Cork was more a bowling all-rounder; a decent number eight but his batting often flattered to deceive. Irani, McGrath, Ealham, and the Hollioakes were more batting all-rounders; number sevens who could bowl ten overs on a good day, but you didn't necessarily need to rely on a full allocation.
Matthew Fleming was another such player (see Sharjah, 1997, also Dougie Brown).
Wikipedia 1999 CWC squads lists Knight in the England squadExpected this thread to be about Nick Knight from the title, a far more puzzling omission
Yeah, good playerOh damn. Surprised he didn't get a game then
Yeah Hussain and Stewart were opening. Stewart was also captain, wicket keeper and, one assumes, also drove the team bus.Surprised Knight didn't get a game. Maybe Hussain was opening Stewart? Or they preferred D Maddy?
He played the matches in 2003 world cup.
Do you other players who got left out, I'm sure they named a 30 provisional squad months before the world cup.Knight was all set to open but after a couple of pot scores in the warm up games he was surprisingly left out of the team for Hussain.
