I realise that this is until now a light hearted thread, started by a poster who was given a temporary ban and is therefore presumably posting legitimately.
However, whilst I have little doubt that this post is only going to be met with negative responses, and result in the imminent banning of this account, I am writing to inform that it's this thread which has prompted me to join the site, and to inform the reason as to why (which is set out below).
I was previously a member of this forum, having prior to that been a long term occasional reader. I don't know when it was that I was a member, other than that it must have been sometime since the summer of 2020 (so I would guess some time last year). I don't know how long I was a member for, but I don't think it was very long. I've no idea what my username was.
I also have no idea how the conversation came about or what thread it was on, but for some reason I mentioned a British war memorial which I'd visited by chance on an island in Greece. My firm recollection, is that I was told by another poster or posters, that the dead soldiers I was referring to were racists, and that when I pointed out in response that the soldiers gave their LIVES as young men mostly in their late teens and early 20s in order to defend the UK, Europe ad beyond from the Nazis, I was labelled by the same posters as some kind of far right activist, apparently on the basis that it goes without saying that British soldiers are racists, and so must be anyone who makes a contrary assertion.
I was banned from the site and was left unable to even read the forum for several months (something else I don't know is what changed after that but something did as I've been reading again occasionally for some time now).
I seem to remember writing to the moderators after the ban to explain how utterly ridiculous the reaction to my posts was, and also how disgusted I was (I felt quite strongly about it at the time, as the war memorial visit had been quite an emotional experience) at the attitude shown to the members of the armed forces who had given their lives for our future. I can't find the email and my recollection is that I didn't receive any response.
Anyway, just wanted to get that off my chest, even if I don't get to see any replies. Nothing that I said was racist, I am not racist, and nor to the best of anyone's knowledge were the young men who gave their lives for your freedom.
Thanks.
