Why are Indians anti-Ganguly?

And martyn has not scored a century in last 2 years, not to forget the fact that he has played 62 % of his matches at home as opposed to Gangus who is at about 43 %.

Prolonged lack of series victories, bowling going downhill fast, negative cricket being played, absolutely no application as a fielder, totally lost and listless when his bowlers are getting thrashed........reason enough to drop him. The VB Series has ended his career as a captain....or it should have, but he still stays on. Sad. Dravid is a thinking captain and he can win a match or two with his captaincy alone. Many of India's best players from the past have identified Laxman as a good captain. Even Sachin or Kumble will make a good captain- why not have your best player or a good bowler setting an example for the rest of the team?

Depends on which side you're talking about.

If he were West Indian, Australian or South African (or possibly even English or Pakistani) with that as a career average - no thanks.
His Career Avg is 41+ (34 against Australia) which is better than many current English, Pakistani, West Indian, South African, Kiwi bastmmen.

As for record - He averages better than Mark Butcher, Naseer Hussain, Stephen fleming, Sarwan, Neil McKenzie and many other International players who are playing for most of these countries you have named. If Andrew Symonds and Michael Bevan can play tests for Australia than any one can play.

Hahaha - He heard me. Congratulation to him at last it came and what a place to score a century. :)

IDravid is too nice. He is too soft spoken. He cannot motivate a team.
Sometimes, it doesn't take a brutal personality to succeed.

Quite often, in my experience, it is the person who leads by example and as opposed to shouting at a player, he encourages them and they respect him all the more for it.

One thing I do not like about Ganguly on a purely cricketing level is his poor attitude when it comes to basics. His fielding is atrocious and his running between the wickets isn't exactly sparkling.

Still on a purely cricketing level, he isn't a great captain either. He seems slightly lost for ideas when things aren't going to well (complete opposite to Brian Lara who has bags of ideas although I'm not sure of the merits of some of them).

He may be the daddy for man-management and public relations but is he the man for on the field captaincy?

Yes, but I was refuting that an average of 34 is that good, and that it would keep him in an International side, as you claimed.

Well 34 is his avg against Australia comparing that to Kallis (35.58), Gary Kirsten (34.36), Gibbs (32.38), Fleming (28.17), Youhana (28.33), Butcher(33), Inzi (37), Hussain (38), Tresco (29)..list can go on for ever.
I said an avg of 34 against australia and over 41 is good enough to play at international level. There are many who are worse than Gangs and still playing for their country why single him out ?

No, you said an average of 34 was good enough to play Internationals - I dispute that for most sides.

Not nessacarly.

Tendulkar had two bites of the cherry as captain and achieved no worse then Ganguly.

Ganguly can hook the ball pretty well, I have seen it myself, why he doesnt hook more I dont know. For a non natural left hander I wouldnt mind being as useless as he is.

Typical bunch of Indians (no mean to offend), if he won the WC, the series in Australia and the VB Series you lot would be singing his praises.

AS a batsmen he's overrated, as a captain he is unimpressive, partcularly when India rae down he's short of ideas.

In short he's the most arrogant pig-headed fellow i've ever seen in Cricket.

I fully agree. These comments should be forwarded to the Indian selection committee.

He was very young. Young captains are unstable. Look at Graeme Smith. Do you consider him to be a good captain? Evidence that young captains are quite unstable.

More than 15 years experience will have battle-hardened Sachin. He is not an unstable, grumpy leader like Ganguly. He is very calm, even in times of crisis. That last over against SA in Mohali is evidence. He is a positive player, in batting and mannerisms.

Why not? Those victories mean a lot. That is why everyone is praising Ricky Ponting. Didn't we hear so much about the pressure on Ponting being Waugh's successor? Didn't we hear a lot of those stories? You cannot question quality. Ponting is, and Ganguly isn't.

Smith is as desperate, lost, helpless and straw-clutching when things get out of hand, just like Ganguly. He has done little noteworthy against quality opposition and has just had success against weak teams. He's not yet a good captain and he will have to be more patient.

well he certainly impressed me 6 months ago
Against whom? The West Indians? They're one of the worst teams away from home and did not look like winning a match in South Africa.

no..England..and I would say England are roughly in the same region as India are in terms of strength

If it was England, they could have won that series rather easily, since the England camp was at a mess, but they let the team off the hook twice- two times too many- not good enough to win a series.

Anyway, it's these captains who get rattled rather easily who are responsible for the lack of victories of their team.
