Why are Indians anti-Ganguly?

If it was England, they could have won that series rather easily, since the England camp was at a mess, but they let the team off the hook twice- two times too many- not good enough to win a series.

Anyway, it's these captains who get rattled rather easily who are responsible for the lack of victories of their team.
and nothing to do with the opposition playing well i guess?

I do agree though about ganguly..i think he is a poor captain

Even though I supported England throughout the series (I want to see them win a Test and ODI series of real meaning), they didn't always play that well and there were times when they were helped by some very average performances by their opposition. Perhaps the South Africans are not that great a team these days.

No, you said an average of 34 was good enough to play Internationals - I dispute that for most sides.
Well you missed out on the previous posts then..34 is his avg against Australia, His overall avg is 41. Next time you give your 2c make sure you have followed the discussion.

I have followed the discussion.

You made no mention of the 41 until after my initial comment...

quote by Swervy:

Lets have a look at ganguly vs teams that bang the ball in:

vs Australia ave 34.13
vs pak ave 34.4
vs SA ave 25
vs WI ave 32.07

he has scored well in england where it doesnt pay to pitch the ball short, so he can play forward with confidence against medium fast bowling.

34.13 isn't a bad average, may not be enough to compare him with the likes of Sachin, Lara (But who is comparing ?) but Good enough to play at the International level.
Do you get it now ?? 34.13 is Ganguly's Avg against Australia (not overall) and that's what we were discussing that 34.13 against Australia is not bad, may be I didn't specifically mentioned australia but when I quotes 34.13 it must have meant I was talking about his performance against Aussies ??

It is too hard to figure out ?

that reads that an average of 34.13 is good enough to play at international level.

You then tell me to follow the thread because you said about his career average, but you said that a long time after.

where did I use the word Career in that post ?? I was talking about 34.13 which happens to be his avg. against Australia posted by Swervy.

He was very young. Young captains are unstable. Look at Graeme Smith. Do you consider him to be a good captain? Evidence that young captains are quite unstable.
He was 26/27 when he last had the captaincy.

Why not? Those victories mean a lot. That is why everyone is praising Ricky Ponting. Didn't we hear so much about the pressure on Ponting being Waugh's successor? Didn't we hear a lot of those stories? You cannot question quality. Ponting is, and Ganguly isn't.
No my point is, that India win everybody in India says how good he is, but when they lose he is hopeless, useless etc.

Have you ever considered that some of the big scores India have conceded are down to the bowlers not the captain? What is Dravid's success rate at State level if he is captain?

Kumble is the captain of Karnataka most of the time. He has a good success rate as in Karnataka team all have played for India and so it is a strong team.

Well you can understand it if people criticise Ganguly for Murali Kartik now bowling well blaming it on his defensive captaincy. Ganguly took that route after Kartik was very expensive in his first 3 overs but still he gets the blame for Kartik's poorperformance

Ganguly is always under so much pressure from the Indian public, I kind of feel some sympathy for him. Especially when he gets boo-ed by his own crowd, like at the end of the First Test v Australia.

He has done so much for Indian cricket already and is probably the best man to lead the Indian team. Give the guy some credit.

Like everyone else he has his plus and minus points.

His personality makes people have strong opinions (for or against) about him. So most Indians (and others I suspect) either love him or hate him. Lovers always bring out his strong points and haters his weak ones. In the process both groups do no justice to the man. They just expose themselves and their prejudices.

i dont think that indians are that anti ganguly
even after this lose to australia not many have made any concerns aganist his captaincy and i think he is a good captin who may have not inspired his fellow players with his performances but he has made them play like a unit.

At least they acheived the ''playing in a unit'' thing. Nothing much else was acheived. Might change in the 2nd test though.
