If u put Agarkar there for Nehra, I think you will have the side that will line up for India at Nagpur.

Anything below #5 and I believe Kaif's utility reduces to half of his potential.
because? in test match cricket i dont see how batting at 5,6 or 7 makes too much difference. it requires the same skills and you usually end up batting for the same amount of time as you would batting above that.

I have just read that Tendulkar will not be 100 percent, so I guess him opening is unlikely, the only real alternative i can think of is Ganguly opens with Sehwag, Tendulkar 3, Dravid, Laxman, Patel
injury or not i doubt the selectors would ever consider opening with sachin. which is a pity, gives the side so much of a better balance.

im amazed at how zaheer seems to be a certainity despite the fact that hes been desperately mediocre for most of his career(and this series).
seriously when are the selectors going to realise that hes just completely useless when his rhythm is not going, given that hes in rhythm once every 10 games.

At 5 or 6, you have decent players around you and still to come.

At 7 that is much less the case.

Kaif seems much more suited to tests than Yuvraj in terms of temperament, he especially impressed me in the natwest ODI's this year even if they weren't tests purely because of his ability to stay cool under pressure. Yuvraj is to Shahid Afridi what Kaif is to Youhana. Maybe that's extremely exaggerated but you see where i'm going, hopefully.

HURRAH!!!! a good analogy

although perhaps no test player should attempt to play like afridi under normal circumstances anyway

I think he was alright during the second innings at Chennai. He was getting the swing, which meant he was in rhythm and if it wasn't for Parthiv, he would gotten a couple of more wickets, well, atleast one more.

Patel's batting seems to be under-rated here.
Not by me.

The only quam I have him opening is whether or not how much it will affect him if he has spent a long time behind the stumps, so therefore fatigued.

If India first then obviously isn't the problem, however, if Australia first and bat a day and a half, then it is.

he was just better than usual, but still far from threatening. personally id say anyone whos played 31 tests and averaged 37(an average on the rise i might add) has surely been given enough chances.
of course the lack of options in the fast bowling department in india is also quite an issue.

He is clearly bowling better now than he was till the first test. Maybe the pressure on him (for a place in the side) is finally beginning to have effect. We havent missed his bowling as much only because of Pathan's emergence in the same period, which , of course, finally ended up pressurising him.

Almost all of Ganguly's proteges, Zaheer, Parthiv, Yuvraj, Harbhajan have shown a tendency of lapsing into spells of complacency. Too much of unconditional backing ???

Anyone who still thinks it should have been Yuvraj and not Kaif ??

Just for another bout of arguments :p
