Recently before Sydney test Allan boarder said - well i am a fan of both lara and sachin tendulkar, i love their batting more than anyone else but Steve smith is the best since Bradman.
This is not what Border said. Some places on the net like Reddit have misrepresented him. Best since Bradman = best Australian batter since Bradman.

“He is right up there (Smith). If he is not (number) one, he is two," Border told The Courier Mail. "I probably still rate Ricky Ponting number one but it is a discussion now with Smith and maybe they just pip Greg Chappell"

“As far as Australia’s concerned, we’ve had Greg Chappell, Ricky Ponting, Steve Waugh, those sorts of players. But now Steve (Smith) ranks equally with that group, no problems whatsoever. I’m a huge fan of Tendulkar and Lara, they were phenomenally good cricketers, but Steve is definitely up with that lot, for sure,” Border said.

Sobers averages 58, Smith 55. Sobers averaged 74 for 10 years, Smith for 5 years. Sobers was better outside of his peak. I don't see how we can view Sobers as anything but a strictly better, more destructive Smith.
Steve Smith is still playing, sachin was Averaging 54.05 after 217 innings, then got some absolutely highways ,and increase it to 57+ at some point.
This is not how you compare average.

To say Hutton did not statpad unlike Gavaskar, Sachin or Lara is a joke.

Hutton never faced bowlers of the calibre of Gavaskar, Richards, Sachin or Lara.
I think you'd be better off posting their numbers when involving some of these great bowlers, for example when Sachin and Donald played together, Sachin's average fell from 54 to 32.9

when McGrath played, this is what Sachin averaged

Hutton can't get great bowlers to just come into existence when he is playing, but whenever he got to face a great one, yeah, he did make runs, heaps of them infact.

We're just penalizing someone who had to play tons of games in extremely spicy conditions against strong bowlers because he didn't get to play popular legendary pacers.

What made you think Smith is not good?
In this era of green mamba, his average is 3rd best after Williamson and root.
(Min 3k runs).

Smith is declining, it's possible he averages 53-54 during retirements, unless he gets proper roads and weak bowlers which he won't get, his average won't go higher, also Sachin made tons in South Africa against Steyn and Morkel, which weren't roads.

1st match was a highway for sure.
Pujara type player succeeded in that series, 2010 series is way series way easier compared to last 3 tours of South Africa (ind vs sa )

eh I won't say it, it was a pretty typical 2000s Saffer pitch, bowler friendly but not a batter graveyard either like recent saffer pitches, the 146 at Cape town is a masterpiece tho

What happened to you? Though why sachin' s effective average droped to 47 ?

1. He had horrible bowling, so the opposition team made more runs
2. He had a very strong batting lineup, especially against spin, and thus his team made more runs

simple as that really

As a new serious cricket fan, I would like to know why during 90s era,
Involving sachin tendulkar - opposition Bowers of NZ ,sl, eng Averaged -38+,50+?

As per my cricket knowledge, Smith played in highways against pak in 2022 so opposition bowlers averaged 50+ .

So isn't it clear that sachin faced way less though teams in 90s (played 48 against top 4)

Than smudge who is playing around 74 percent against nz,sa, eng, ind.
