Burgey much?

Offies definitely have their use. Try them next time you're up against a left handed batsman
hey hehe i never said they don’t have their niche in the strategy of the game; i’ve just always seen it as the nerd’s refuge and can’t jive with the discipline myself

murali is the exception but i wouldn’t say he’s a right arm off spinner perse

Take such little work to be a serviceable finger spinner. If I had a dollar for every semi-talented cricketer that decided to bowl off-spin and within a month was perfectly good at it. Far easier to do than any other discipline.

On the flip side to actually be top international class and effective in all conditions is very hard.

i think a big part of why i, an australian, don't have as much respect for it is that we're brought up to appreciate the most visceral aspects of the game, and of all the crafts in the game off spin is probably the most subtle rather than visceral

this mentality of viscerality above consequence is also why the current iteration of the team sucks on non road conditions ftr, a failure to appreciate necessary subtleties to succeed in such conditions with bat and ball imho

Shady is correct. Finger spinners practice that discipline because they can't do anything else. Literally any able bodied person can do it.

As for the poll, I'd give it narrowly to Kumble, but tbf Ashwin is closing rapidly. He's improved his efforts overseas a lot.

I'd say Ashwin, no other Indian spinner has evolved as much as Ash. Also, you can bank on him to adapt according to the conditions and make the most of what is on offer, Kohli showing a bit more confidence in him will help.

one thing i will really give to ashwin, i'll say, is even in the 2013-14 tour when it was said he had a pretty bad go of things, honestly watching most of the tour, and when you compare his performance to any offspinner that came here from about 2010 to maharaj, i reckon that he did pretty okay compared to what people think

Ashwin. Very very impressed with his massive improvements outside of Asia. Pity he doesn't have better fielders...
Massive is overstating it. He had one pretty good series in Australia but I still have seen any real standout spell from him. It is like having a batsmen who hasn't score a ton in SENA, that is a pretty big hole in your record.

If he has a really good series in England this time though and manages a fifer, I could consider him near if not better than Kumble though.

Kumble's away record is not particularly better than Ashwin's - I think he maybe has some longevity over him and had less support in his bowling days, but that's about it.

True but at least there are a couple of standout performances there that Ashwin is missing. Like I said, a goodish series against England with one matchwinning performance would be enough for me to give the title to Ashwin.

He posts clips playing cricket. I can assure you, calling it "spin" is quite the stretch.
while this may be true, I've just checked the stats and it turns out I've taken 19 wickets in the last two seasons at a SR of 13. So suck it #FingerSpinMasterRace
