Who is the best all-rounder in world cricket?

Kallis' bowling isn't influential enough, all he does is take wickets when he's playing rubbish teams, or bowls 2-3 feet outside off stump when it's a good team.

Flintoff is the best all-rounder over the past 2 years, with Oram not too far behind.

Expect to hear from my lawyers. I hurt myself really badly falling off my chair in hysterics after reading your first sentence. :@

And take those glasses off. The ones with the funny rose colour shades.

Clarke? If you said Watson, fine, but CLARKE? I'm a big fan of his, but he's not anywhere near good enough as a bowler to take regular test wickets. At most he could do a Lehmann type role in ODIs in the future.

Tests and ODIs r two different forms of the game so lets have separate choices for both of them .Here r my choices

Best Test all-rounder--------------Jacques Kallis
Best Odi all-rounder--------------Andrew Flintoof
Shoaib Malik and Shahid Afridi r doing well but they r not genuine all-rounders.Abdul Razzaq and Chris Cairns may be considered though

1.Flintoff - Would get in as a specialist batsman or a specialist bowler
2.Kallis - Would get into any team in the world as a batsman and he can still have his days with the ball so is worth his position on my table
3.Razzaq - Good backup bowler and decent late middle order batsman
4.Malik - Potential to be higher up my list. Can compete with Giles as England's spinner and is also one of the better batters around
5.Afridi - Almost unparralled ability. Bowling is coming along and with a little more application, the sky is the limit
6.Oram - Capable batsman and bowler. dont really know which skill he s better at
7. Gayle- Bowling more and more these days. Not half bad IMO

I might have misssed other obvious ones but here are some that i thought about

Cairns - No longer a test player so i decided not to have im on my list
Pollock - What happened to him. even Nitini is becoming a more consistent batsman [and bowler :D] than him
Boje - alrite batsman. Bowling allrounder really
Bravo - batting only comes good once in a while so like Boje, a decent bowler who can bat
Heath Streak - If worst comes to worst, he can play for Zimbos as a specialist batsman. Never know :p
Scot Styris- Originally a bowler :p

I am not a big fan of the style he plays his Cricket but I think Kallis is the Best of the current crop. I always think bowling allrounders are of more value. (I know Kallis is more of a batting ar)
Kallis is no longer an all rounder - a world-class batsman who provides back-up bowling.

That's of course assuming he doesn't have a mystery niggle when facing the good sides...

Oram is an interesting one, he averages 43.56 with the bat in Tests, 17.59 in ODIs. His bowling hasn't gotten as many wickets you'd expect from someone of his height, decent pace and accuracy - a bit like the earlier version of Flintoff with the lack of wickets taken in Tests.

that is the problem with most of these ''allrounders''. they have the capabilities but end up falling short in one of the two qualities of allrounders. Afridi, Pollock, Kallis, Bravo and an to a much lesser extent Flintoff

I think Pollock is a pretty classical bowling all-rounder, and Flintoff is a true all-rounder in the Botham sort of category. Not sure where he "falls short".

Of course! Otherwise they'd be perfect, which is impossible

Thats why i said ''to a lesser extent'' reffering to his past traits. Even these days he still manages to dissapoint with the bat although he is now much more consistent

And Polock was pretty much a complete all-rounder about 2-3 years ago. Not the bowling allrounder he is these days. These days i am pretty much regard him as a tail ender which is a shame whne you consider the potential he has. Infact these days i think Boje should come in before him.

no way mate, clarke's bowling could never be has effective at this level, his bowling will always be back up, he will do the same job Mark waugh & Lehmann did for australia

Kallis..

I'd rather have arguably the best batsman in world cricket, and an okayish bowler, than someone who is just "good" at both batting and bowling..
sensing a bit of biasness in this statement Langeveldt

naa mate.... all pollock has lost is his pace, other than that he is still the bowling all-rounder old that can contribute very well with the bat, so i dont see why Boje should bat ahead of him.

I would class Daniel Vettori as a great allrounder as his batting has been great lately and also his bowling
