No, they're not. They lost a test at home v SL and got smashed in Pakistan. They did superbly to make the most of their many chances v NZ, but they have a weak top 3 and no decent spinners.

There is very little between the top 6 teams with Pakistan, the Windies, and Bangladesh behind them.
We didn’t get ‘smashed’ in Pakistan and although Crawley is in a bad run of form, the opening partnership has a very good record. Jury still out on Pope at 3 but he’s done pretty well there. Weak top three isn’t really reflective of output while they’ve been playing together

Yeah the past 5 years have been rough on him.

Ah yes his famous India record…

Sure he had a good Ashes. He can remember it as the highlight of his career.
Prior to his recent slump he had been one of the top scorers in the world for about 18 months? You do you though

And outscored him, so what’s your point?
I don’t believe that’s true. @Howe_zat posted it at some point in the English summer. You’re talking an 18 month period where Crawley out scored pretty much everyone, and at a decent average too.

I mean the main point is that your ‘he’s been **** for five years’ comment was drivel. Backing this up, Crawley/Duckett has been one of the highest averaging opening partnerships around.

I mean 5 year period averaging 31… I calls em like I sees em.

I’m just not sure how a 5 year career with 50 tests and average of 31 can be described as anything but mediocre.

For a batsman or a bowler.
Like I said, obtuse. If he retired tomorrow nobody would say he’d be remembered as a great opener ffs. His overall average doesn’t cancel out that he had a very good 12-18 months with the bat. He had a poor series V Windies, though that was only four innings I think. Injured V SL, good innings first up v Pak and didn’t do much else.

How **** he was in 21/22 doesn’t cancel out whether he’s been good since. It’s fair to say jury is still out because a good 18 months also doesn’t cancel out the rest. It’s just your stubborn refusal to acknowledge any sort of nuance that grates. Well, unless the nuance suits you of course.
