It's an OTT post but Pujara, Rahane and to a lesser extent kohli being persisted with for this long really has been disgraceful. It's soured their reputation a ton in the eyes of a lot of Indian fans even though they've had really memorable careers. I don't think any country has had a middle order as poor as this and at the same time somehow as stable (in terms of selection) as this for a very very long time. So you're going to get some irrational hate from time to time.
That middle order is the reason I can't put them as number one. I don't get how some posters in the same breath trash the middle order yet put India as the best team.

it's not because we think the indian middle order is some imperious fortress but rather a general acknowledgment australia's batting has some holes too

On form, Australia have the best opener and best middler order in the world.

India have a better lower order, though not as much without Pant, but away from home that won't make the difference.

Dravid is an ATG batsmen and played in a way more batting friendly era then pujara. Not saying Dravid would average 44 playing now, but he also wouldn't have averaged 52.
way more batting friendly era??
there was a stat recently in espncricinfo w.r.t decade wise split of 'batting average' . 1990 and 2010 were more or less on the same level.
2000 was a bit more batting friendly . But still Dravid faced lot more ATG bowlers thru out his career. He played a lot against Pakistan as well which Pujara never did.Dravid was a very good ODI batsman as well . All in all Pujara literally has been no where near Dravid's calibre.

Dravid also had a grand total of 0 series victories in Australia, let alone series victories in which he played a critical part. The entitlement is honestly off the charts.
Dravid's country wise average is far far better when compared to that of Chepu. Dravid was instrumental in India drawing series in AUS 2004, ENG 2003 & winning in PAK 2004 etc etc .

Dravid only played 1/3rd of his career in those two decades you talk about, the majority of his career was in 2000 and calling it bit more is understating it. im sure Pujara would have been threatened by the putrid Pakistani bowling that England destroyed last year

nobody here thinks Pujara is as good as Dravid but to understate Pujara’s career is stupid when he will always be a key part of India winning two consecutive series in Australia, it is historic and will be remembered forever

just go thru the country wise averages... really really far from adequate that is required of an 1 down batsman. And he has not scored even 7200 runs!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is really strange that a nation with such huge talent pool persisted with this proven failure where as a lot of promising rookies were scoring bucket loads of runs in first class cricket.

w.r.t PAK, those were the days of 2Ws, Shoaib, Saqlain,Mushtaq,Asif etc etc .... not the 30+ averaging bowlers that ENG destroyed off late..

I notice in your entire rant you don’t talk about or mention Kohli at all. The man has been stinking it up as long as those 2 now. At least the other 2 got dropped and had to work their way back in - and they have played some very very crucial knocks in the time they weren’t great that led to Indian wins (whatever you think about whether they should have been brought back, they were dropped).

Kohli hasn’t been dropped at all, not even a hint or consideration for this.

His main knock in this timeframe was a 180 on the flattest pitch on earth in a decade.

Where’s the same level of hatred for this equally mediocre batsman?

He made 7200+ Test runs, that's a pass in his book already.
