Where does Ross Taylor rank?

Sir Redman

State Vice-Captain
Since when was this not the case?
Oh dear. I suggest you have a search through CW for some of Voltman's many debunkings of that rubbish.

And before anyone gets any ideas about Taylor being a "steal": he's a born and bred Kiwi, who just happens to have a Samoan-born mother (or father, can't remember which).

If Taylor wants to play cricket for New Zealand he can be born and bred in Samoa or pretty well anywhere else, Kiwis should support him as much as someone who's lived in the same house in Auckland all his life.

I think its a bit too early to judge Ross as he hasn't played too many games yet. He certainly has the talent but he needs to prove that he is good player against various opponents under various conditions. But he has started off really well and now the challenge for him is to carry on with the same consistency.

i think ross taylor definitely is brilliant and given the way hes been playing has the ability to continue this against all teams over the world. i just hope he doesnt slowly fall away like other kiwi batsmen with potential such as craig mcmillan did or even hamish marshall who might not have had the potential but averaged high 30s in odis for quite a while before 2 years of failure. so lets hope taylor can keep it goin for much longer...he could be the 1st kiwi in a long time to have an odi average of over 40 when he retires.

Well Hamish Marshall never had the domestic averages ITFP, did he? It was remarkable enough that he did well for as long as he did.

Taylor, on the other hand, does in one-dayers and, who knows, maybe in time might attain them in First-Class too.

He averaged something like 28 when he made his test debut (? or at least when he was recalled) and hadn't made a century (IIRC) until he made one in tests. Until he went to England for CC cricket I think he had 2 FC centuries. Then he scored about 5 over there.

A strange, strange player.

He is. Makes no sense at all. Though McCullum seemed to be something similar in terms of enjoying our pitches rather more than yours.

Simon Jones is a bowler of a similar ilk.
