What is your ultimate 4 man pace attack in Tests of all time?

gftw

U19 12th Man
I did a poll on 3 man post 1970 earlier but thought a discussion would be better than poll and to expand to all time and 4 man.

Mine is Marshall-Steyn-Mcgrath-Akram. I feel like this attack has everything you could ask for. There's probably some really good bowlers from pre 1970 that I'm missing since I started following after that, so interested to see what y'all would choose and to learn more!

Just consider strictly their bowling and not their batting/team composition to create the best possible bowling attack.

Mine is Marshall, McGrath, Hadlee and Imran.

Two control seamers and two swingers.

I understand why some would prefer Wasim over Imran but I think the left armer thing is superfluous.

Marshall, McGrath, Ambrose and Wasim.

I don't usually go for the whole 'left-armer for the sake of it' thing when I pick these sort of teams, but if I'm going to have four specialist quicks (which I really wouldn't, but anyway) I do want the fourth one to be different. A left-armer who's good with the old ball and against the tail really complements that first trio IMO.

Strictly based on bowling strength

Akram - Marshall - Hadlee - Lillee ( or Steyn)

Considering overall value,

Akram - Marshall - Hadlee - Procter

Victor Ian

International Coach
Marshall, McGrath, Cummins, Garner. (I want my non openers to be used to not opening)

I really wish proctor could have had a full career. He bowled so different.

Was considering Barnes instead of Akhtar but I now think of him squarely as a Bill O'Reilly-esque spin bowler.

Marshall, McGrath, Imran and Hadlee would be my four seamers. Then I have Sobers to spin it with Muralitharan.

Thought it was post 1970
For Alltime,

On pure bowling merit
Akram - Hadlee - Barnes - Marshall

Overall package
Akram - Hadlee - Barnes - Procter

Can’t go wrong with Marshall, McGrath, Ambrose & Hadlee…there will be no respite for any batting lineup…express pace, uncomfortable bounce, seam, swing, relentless accuracy…

Marshall
Hadlee
Garner
Lillee

For scorching pace, controlled swing, throttling accuracy and all-out aggression.
