you dont call averaging 24 with both bat and ball as improvement?
and lets not forget that he was batting against an illegal delivery as well......
he has improved his bowling. but then it doesnt make sense to replace a bowling allrounder with a batsmen.

1) a rise in average of 5 to 24 is not what u call improvement then?
2)he was batting against what was a quality spin attack and against an illegal delivery....playing for india it would mean that he would rarely be posed against any great spin attack(bar SL)
3) what about the other 50% of his career that he would be playing abroad where in the last year he has been averaging 50 with the bat and 28 with the ball?when was that last series win outside the sub continent again?

may be, but not good enough to be in indian team

getting a bit desperate here, dont you think.

any medium pacer can look like hadlee in nz. similarly any spinner can have success in india but they dont coz indians are very good at playing spin. its not the other way round.

may be, but not good enough to be in indian team.
1) you'd think that after playing a few games in india he would improve and not still average 24
2) what about his average elsewhere or does that not matter to india since they dont seem to be concerned with winning outside the sub continent anymore
3) and the bowling average?flintoff is good enough to make it into the indian side on his bowling alone! his batting average is a plus

considering the highest english batting average in SL was 36 i dont think so....

dont be ridiculous.....there is a clear difference in quality between someone like kumble and someone like richard dawson or even ashley giles regardless of where they bowl

err have you been following the arguement at all? i was implying that india need flintoff because it would help them outside the sub continent and would provide them a balance so that they could go in with 2 spinners if required.
the point of mentioning when england won the last world cup would be?

well, it seems you were questioning India's away record, and koch_cha responded by questioning Englands WC record.

Anyway the comparison was between Yuvraj and Flintoff , and since Yuvraj is more of an ODI player till now, it would mean replacing Yuv with Flin in the Odi side. No relevance to away tests.

Just following the rules of the thread :)

it was until one wise guy decided to bring up flintoff's test record in the sub continent....

The World Cup is played every 4 years. Away series are played every year.

only if it's that simple.
if that is the case why havent the indians won outside subcontinent in more than a decade.

great! then trade him for a bowler. swap him with nehra

this only highlights my first point. some players just cant play on certain surfaces

i could give you a long list of mediocre bowlers who had success in nz (including someone like bangar) although they arent of the class hadlees, Mcgraths etc.

because india dont have seaming wickets at home? if flintoff played for india i would assume he would also be playing a bit of domestic cricket which would definetly improve his ability against spin bowling

because nehra has been averaging 50 with the bat over the last year.......

theres a difference between " had success" and bowled brilliantly...... you could say that ashley giles "has success" against SL in SL but murali bowler brilliantly and therefore got more wickets. the point is that there is a clear difference in class between a good bowler and a mediocre one in any conditions and i dont think flintoff would have too many problems against someone like giles regardless of the place....

and the made up average serves what purpose?
ok. the "recently" part of it isnt quite correct but still proves my point that he ist any better in odi's either.

you are speculating. so many indians have played county cricket and it barely makes any difference. the bottom line is flintoff hasnt proved himself in subcontinent

i dont think flintoff would have too many problems against someone like giles regardless of the place....
and you know this how?
