International 12th Man
ep, hes hitting the ball well

scoring for the team and is part of a winning combo and not some one who is reluctantly kept in the team with just his previous performances and records in mind

still he stands as the main wicket for the opposition bowling attack, still he is the man to get , still he is the man who can snatch the match away from u , still he is the man whos wicket can possibly trigger a batting collapse, still he is the man most of the indians watch the match for

Nah. The man who can snatch the match away from you is without any shadow of a doubt Laxman. To the point that if we're defending a total on the 4th/5th day, Laxman is the guy I want first.

EDIT: And in ODIs there's a whole range of batsmen who can do that, Dhoni the foremost amongst them. That's a testament to how mindbogglingly powerful the Indian batting lineup is.

ya dude, i din take away that from laxman or any other player

i just said that even sachin has the capability of doing that and he almost showed it in his 175 against australia some months back

That's the point, though, isn't it? Almost.
yep, cant help it if you score 175 runs and the whole other team cant score the remaining 175 or atleast one batsman cant chip in and stand with u till the end in which case laxman has been really fortunate

maybe there is the possibility of Laxman being better than Tendulkar in batting with the tail?????

Laxman almost always exposes the tail. Takes a sinlge of the first ball/2nd ball and makes the tailender face the rest of the over. Luck plays a huge role with this strategy.

I would say that he knows who would be able to handle the pressure and when The guy has been too good with the tail to say that he always lucky. How much can you depend on luck FFS

It involves quite a bit of luck. Tailender has to do the hard yards, not laxman- all he has to do is take a free single given the field is right back.

Meh, Tendulkar and Laxman are different types of batsmen with different strengths. I love both of them equally for what they bring. Tendulkar is the man you want to pile runs up match after match, set up games for you, and Laxman's the one to bail you out of the ****. Agree with blahblahblah that by and large, Tendulkar is the first wicket the opposition want.

Agreed.

But being a better batsman doesn't mean that Tendy will also be a better finisher

:laugh::laugh: such a good description

Whatever it takes!!!
i deny

if u did not know, during normal cricketing seasons , sachin practices daily and thats what keeps him fit and helps him perform this way in this matches, something which he himself has accepted and said in a tv interview

so just sitting at home and waiting for test matches to come around which surely are less in frequency than the odis will do no good for a player like him who just loves to play play and play cricket and win matches for his team
he also mentioned that at his age the recovery period between matches is becoming big for him.. So it cuts both ways.

Basicaly what Sachin did in the first or second test in RSA... It seems to be a team strategy, more or less..
