I never liked Uthappa much in the past, but his recent domestic form is very good. Should certainly be around the squad IMO.Uthappa could claim the no.6 spot if he keeps improving. Exceptional finisher and a very good fielder to boot.
Oh it's not that I think he scores too slowly or anything like that. Right now the template for his innings is - hit bad balls for boundaries in the early phase, build innings with 1s and 2s later and bat till 25-30 overs if possible. I want the template to change to just attack everything without worrying about setting a foundation for the team or converting starts into big scores. It's borne out of a selfish desire to watch him bat in that mould. He strikes pretty close to 100 TBH. Why does he need to change anything when we have Sehwag anyway? I'd be perfectly happy if he called it quits from ODI cricket, can't see why he needs to play on any further.
I agree. I really want to see him back to "all demolition", "carefree" mood of the old. He really has nothing more to achieve in ODIs, and I don't beleive in "moulding" a youngster into opening in time for WC 2015, it simply does not work that way. A big load is off his head, he doesnt have the need to be wrapped in cottonwool for another WC. Just see the ball, hit the ball. Would be a combination of 98 Tendulkar + 2010s Tendulkar, will be amazing, will be godly.Oh it's not that I think he scores too slowly or anything like that. Yeah, their present roles is probably better for the team. That's why I called it a selfish desireI see your point, but personally I love the sense of calm that pervades the innings when Sehwag is demolishing the bowling at one end, and almost imperceptibly, Sachin sneaks to 20(25) and sets himself up for a big one. He just plays it perfectly when Sehwag gets on a roll.
Definitely. I think it is a good time for him to go from ODIs. A good high atm........Would really rather Sachin give up ODIs and stick to tests. I'm fairly certain he will.
I think if he retires now it would be closer to Imran's finish rather than wait until 201 WC. Now is a good time to retire. Imran came back from retirement in 1987 to try and lead Pakistan to victory on a final attempt. Sachin has achieved WC victory now and there is no need to try and have a 100 in a WC final. Would not be such a great end if India didn't win the cup in 2015.Sachin should retire from ODIs next year and play tests till 2014 and retire. He should then comeback and play the 2015 WC and should lift the trophy after a 100 in the final before retiring completely ala Imran Khan.
Smiley, if he continues to average 51 in ODIs at a superlative SR of 94, there is absolutely no reason why he should retire from ODIs. Heck, if he does that for 4 years (the last 4 have convinced never to guess "Endulkar" again), there is no reason why he shouldn't be playing in 2015 WC. It may sound implausible, but hey, if someone told me Sachin would rattle off tons after tons and be nearly 99 centuries big after 2007 WC, I'd have ridiculed him.Definitely. his retirement from ODIs will give him more time and fitness for test matches. That is where the real cricket lies IMO.Smiley, if he continues to average 51 in ODIs at a superlative SR of 94, there is absolutely no reason why he should retire from ODIs. I don't necessarily agree with the point that playing less cricket makes you perform better than you're doing actually. I am a subscriber to the school that believes a sportsman should play a certain optimum level of cricket, possible as widespread through the year, and across formats. Sachin's renaissance (hope I can use that now BoyBrumby) in the last 4 years had to do with him consistently brilliant across all formats.his retirement from ODIs will give him more time and fitness for test matches. That is where the real cricket lies IMO.
He plays a Raina kind of role tbh.Uthappa could claim the no.6 spot if he keeps improving. Exceptional finisher and a very good fielder to boot.

Thats prob why he hasn't announced his retirement from ODis yet!i deny
if u did not know, during normal cricketing seasons , sachin practices daily and thats what keeps him fit and helps him perform this way in this matches, something which he himself has accepted and said in a tv interview
so just sitting at home and waiting for test matches to come around which surely are less in frequency than the odis will do no good for a player like him who just loves to play play and play cricket and win matches for his team
